She has the ability to score, pass, rebound and defend with the best of them in her class and she was sure to let everyone know that this season on their way to the state tournament in Des Moines. Along with this, Whitsitt is super shifty and quick. Her handle and movement from side to side while dribbling is impressive. She does a great job of creating space and making her opponent off balance as she attacks the hoop on a consistent basis. Going into AAU season and into the fall i’m sure that she is going to be receiving more and more attention from college recruiters with the way she plays on the floor. Something much deserving from a player who consistently has put the work in over her career to get to this point.
Ballard high school made it to the state playoff this past season behind the play of their group of upperclassmen. A group headlined by Alliyah Thompson Alliyah Thompson 6’1″ | SF Ballard | 2024 State IA . Thompson was a difference maker. She is a lengthy forward with the ability to put the ball on the floor and score in a multitude of ways around the defense. She has a nice shooting stroke while being able to post up and score over smaller defenders closer to the basket. In high school she is a mismatch and she is aware of it. Any chance that she gets she takes full advantage near the paint. On defense she is also a stand out, deflecting shots or creating blocks while being able to switch between a guard and a post player depending on the matchup. Thompson recently committed to play college ball after she graduates, trying to bring her talents to a program with the intention of helping them win a conference championship in the near future.
Highlights
Maclayn Houston Maclayn Houston 5’7″ | SG West Harrison | 2024 State IA popped onto the radar after putting together one of the best seasons we saw all year out of players in the 2024 class. Houston, a versitile combo guard, had her game on full display this season for West Harrison high school on the way to an overall 3-20 record. Despite their record, Houston showed that she was a gamer. Putting up just over 23 PPG and 11 RPG, two impressive numbers to average no matter your class. Coming into this update Houston is placed at #28 in our 2024 rankings, a solid number to start at with the ability to move up depending on her future play. For a college program out there looking for a guard who can move around on the floor, works hard, and can score the ball, Houston might be the player for you.
Emma Townsley Emma Townsley 5’7″ | PG Benton | 2024 State IA was the other guard that the Benton Wildcats needed this season for them to be able to put together the season they did, making it to the state championship. Townsley, a quick stepping guard, did a little bit of everything for her Benton Wildcats during the state tournament and more-so throughout the entireity of the year. She was mainly put in charge of bringing up the ball or playing the 2 position at the state tournament but in reality could move to the three to help spread the floor if need be. With that being said, it is worth mentioning that she is no liability on the offensive end. She can shoot, score, and get to her spots just as well as the next guard, if not better. Coming up this fall Townsley will be the unquestionable leader of her Benton team, with the goal of making it back to the state tournament for one more big run before her high school career comes to an end and she takes her talents to college.
