It was a rough time for Springfield Local as Toledo Christian set the tone early in the first game of Session 2, falling behind big at the half and they could not recover. It was a tough defensive effort as Toledo Christian did a great job reading well and anticipating the play. Add on top of that, Toledo Christian only turned the ball over twice in the opening half allowing them to open a 24-8 lead. Toledo Christian was held to only three made field goals in the first half.
Braden shining for the Eagles
Everyone knows the name Kendall Braden Kendall Braden 5'9" | SG Toledo Christian | 2024 State OH (featured photo above) as the 2024 guard made a statement in the win, especially in the second half as Toledo Christian started to open the game. She displayed a complete game and was the unquestioned team leader. Love her work ethic and plays with swag, controlled the game and tempo and has great court vision. Elevates so well over the defense and can connect from the midrange at a high level.
Sagester steps up to lead Patriots
It was a good battle between Rylee Sagester Rylee Sagester 5'6" | CG Tri Village | 2023 State OH , the 2023 guard from Tri Village and 2024 Hiland guard Ashley Mullet Ashley Mullet 5'4" | PG Berlin Hiland | 2024 State OH . In the end, Sagester delivered the big plays to lead her team into the state finals. Any nerves on this big floor were answered early as the Tri Village sharpshooter buried a number of threes and a variety of moves, scoring at the rim and was on a mission tonight to lead them to the win. Both players are respective leaders for their teams and Sagester only had two turnovers in a game that saw her be the focus of the Hawks defense.
Big improvement
Although she didn’t catch the eyes of people with her scoring, Tri Village 2026 Kynnedi Hager Kynnedi Hager 6'3" | PF New Madison Tri-Village | 2026 State OH did so much more that score. Her 6’3″ presence down low and on the boards was key for TV to manage the block and make things happen for the Patriots defense. Kynnedi has good hands and is developing her footwork which will continue to improve.
State Final Preview
It is a rematch of their game at the Classic in the Country as Tri Village will battle Toledo Christian for the state title at 2:00 on Saturday, TV won that earlier battle in January, and I believe one of the biggest keys will be how well the Patriots handle Mackenzie Royal-Davis. I expect Sagester and Braden to step up for their respective teams, but Royal-Davis can be the key. She is such a strong physical kid, Hager will need to stay out of foul trouble to battle with her. Also look for TV 2023 Torie Richards to be focused in on Braden creating a fun matchup to watch.
