Here is a look at some of the top younger guards and wings from the Class of 2027 that I got a chance to see during the second day of play on Sunday.
Jamiah Herring-Green (Phenom-STL): A 5’9″ guard with excellent length, athleticism and the ability to get buckets from just about anywhere on the floor. She can break down defenders with a variety of escape moves such as the spin and the wrap-around dribble. She will get the rebound and go coast to coast for the layup.
*****
Amaya Manuel (Genesis): A talented point guard who has a nice feel for the game along with the ability to score at all three levels. She can break down defenders with her smooth handles and ability to change speeds to get to the basket. She can also deliver a nice pass.
******
Cara Manuel (Genesis): A smooth point guard who forms an excellent backcourt with her twin sister Amaya. She has a nice mid-range jumper and she is capable of taking the contact when she gets into the lane for a bucket and a And 1.
******
Ryenn Gordon Ryenn Gordon 5'7" | PG Centralia | 2027 State MO (Phenom-COMO): An athletic combo guard who can be very disruptive on the full court press with her constant activity and motor. She is very good offensively with the ball and moving without the ball. She finds the open spots on the floor and she can swish home her high-arching 3-point jumper.
******
Sophia Shapriro (Knights): A 5’6″ combo guard who was constantly on the attack when she has the ball in her hands. She’s fearless and she has a motor that never stops as she stays in constant motion. She has an excellent floater and mid-range jumper and she can score in the lane at a variety of angles, while also hitting the perimeter jumper.
******
Lexi Ament (Phenom): A talented 5’7″ lefty shooting guard from Crocker who plays the game with very good pace. She stays on the move and get herself open, where she can knock down jumpers from 3-point range. She also had some nice takes to the basket.
******
Nylah Scales (Phenom-STL): A very smooth point guard who has excellent quickness, yet she knows how to play the game at her own pace. Her basketball IQ is very high. She can beat defenders off the dribble with a quick first step and she also has a nice step-back jumper from 3-point range.
******
Rylee Dodson Rylee Dodson 5'8" | PG Rolla | 2027 State MO (Phenom-COMO): A talented guard from Rolla who a very nice stretch of play that I witnessed when I walked into the gym. She was hitting the 3-pointer and scoring on some smooth takes to the basket. She was also disruptive on the defensive end with her activity.
******
Sophia Benke (Knights): A young shooting guard who displayed an excellent shooting stroke from 3-point territory. She has the confidence to pull the trigger from well beyond the 3-point line when she had the time in space. In the game I watched, she knocked down a triple from about 30 feet to break open a tie game in the closing minute.
