The tournament was staged about 20 minutes west of the lakefront in Milwaukee in and around suburban Waukesha. As all you hardcore music buffs should know, Waukesha is the home of the legendary guitarist, songwriter and guitar maker Les Paul. The dear departed Mr. Paul wasn’t the only one who made some beautiful music in Waukesha, however, as the talented athletes of the Prep Girls Hoops Circuit served up some virtuoso performances of their own
We watched every 16U squad at least once but mostly twice. We can’t see everything, of course, so apologies to those players who might have lit up the sky when we weren’t looking. The reality is, players from the second team could easily be on the first or the third. When there’s a deep field loaded with quality athletes, that’s always going to be the case. From our perspective, these were the top 16U performers we saw up close and personal at the PGH Circuit Legacy Region Classic.
FIRST TEAM
We’re accustomed to seeing Carter play AAU ball with The City where she shared the backcourt with the dynamic point guard Aneisha Scott Aneisha Scott 5’6″ | PG DeLaSalle | 2025 State MN of DeLaSalle. As a result, Carter was sometimes overshadowed, and I don’t think observers could fully appreciate just how much she can do. This weekend with FBC North of Minneapolis, Alaya was in large and in charge. She took center stage and put on a show. Carter has deadly speed and quickness with the ability to change directions in a split second. Her first step is a killer as many a defender learned first-handed in Waukesha. We were most impressed with her passing as she was finding openings, successfully slipping the ball through the narrowest of gaps and into the hands of an open teammate. If she can stay healthy, the Top 20 sophomore is a Division 1 prospect all day long.
If you’ve been reading my evaluations for the past seven years then you know how much I love big, physical guards. When combined with a confident, aggressive mindset these players can have a huge impact on the game every time they take to the court. Hailing from Muskego and playing AAU with 24:UP, Autumn epitomizes that ethos. Standing 5’10 with a solid frame, the 40th ranked player in Wisconsin impressed us with her physicality, her aggressiveness, her complete and total lack of fear. She embraces contact, forces defenders to act in ways they’d rather not, and knows where to send the basketball in all situations. Mentally, she was clearly dialed in this weekend, was communicating on the floor, and defended with passion. Dibb is a solid next-tier prospect at the scholarship level.
Faith is the quintessential small point guard. Standing just 5’5, she possesses all of the assets small guards need to be successful at the next level. That’s why she holds the #34 ranking in the Prep Girls Hoops Wisconsin Class of 2025. The West DePere guard just has a certain calmness about her, the kind of poise and maturity that allows a floor general to run the show at the pace she wants, move the ball where it needs to go, and help everyone around her be a little bit better. Walder simply has that presence all great point guards have, a confident air that gives off a positive vibe that says this is an athlete who knows exactly what she’s doing. Faith has also got the floater, shoots the three, and gets to the rim with quickness and elevation where she can finish with either hand. It’s a full package of assets that will serve Walder well at the next level.
Nora can flat out score the basketball. She’s proven that on the Wisconsin high school stage with Watertown Luther Prep over and over again. Whether is a sweet little floater or a high-arcing launch from distance, Wendorff can definitely put the ball in the basket. The thing is, that’s not really her best asset. The 5’5 floor general does what all great point guards do – she distributes the ball. The pass is clearly top of mind for Nora, which is why she is an assist-generating machine who finds the teammate in the best position to score in the most efficient way for their team. Defensively her quick feet and fast hands are a weapon. At one point she got the slightest of tips on a ball being manipulated by an opposing ball handler, just enough to dislodge it slightly and commit larceny on the spot. In a split second, Nora was gone to the races for an easy bucket.
Much like Dibb, Vogel is a big guard with a solid build and the mentality to take advantage of those God-given assets. The Top 50 prospect stands 5’10 with long arms, nice athleticism, and a quality skill set. What sets her apart, however, is her aggressiveness. Emily’s mindset appears to be pretty straightforward: Attack. Attack again. Attack some more. She knows how to run the show as a distributor, knows how to put the ball in the cylinder as a scorer, knows how to make life difficult on opponents as a defender. And she just makes plays, rebounds hard, and never stops working. Vogel reminds us so much of 2021 Minnesota graduate Kaylee Van Eps, a top prospect who now plies her trade at D1 Lehigh. She’s not super fast or super smooth or a superstar – she’s just solid all the way around. Versatile, position-less players are very much in demand in today’s basketball and this attractive prospect is just that.
