I don’t think I’m breaking any headline news by saying Carter may be one of the most gifted guards in her class. The way she controls the basketball when it’s in her possession is masterful. She can adapt to any style. You want to run, she can run. You want to run a half-court set, she’s got it. She consistently broke the defense down to get the bucket for a pretty finish or a dish to teammate. Defensively she has great anticipation and instincts. Alaya is a next-level prospect with scholarship-worthy talent. She plays with a chip on her shoulder and I’m sure she’s going into her senior year at Prior Lake with something to prove. I can tell you that I’m rooting hard for her to put it together so she can have the impact we’ve all been waiting for.

Carter has the look, the walk, the talk and most importantly the skillset. She has the tight ball handling skills, the clear vision to maneuver the traffic and the ability to score from all angles. Quick first step matched with a heavy carrying of athleticism. With nothing but time, Alaya has the potential to be truly special at the next level when she gets there. She is ranked Top 20 in her state for a reason, but she was definitely a Top 5 player over the weekend here in Illinois.

The kid has the “it” factor. She can play 1-3, defend 1-3 and her presence is felt on every possession. Tons of athleticism, matched with key fundamentals and the same active nature on the defensive side as well. She’s a spark to any offense and can be a GameChanger. High potential.

of DeLaSalle. As a result, Carter was sometimes overshadowed, and I don’t think observers could fully appreciate just how much she can do. This weekend with FBC North of Minneapolis, Alaya was in large and in charge. She took center stage and put on a show. Carter has deadly speed and quickness with the ability to change directions in a split second. Her first step is a killer as many a defender learned first-handed in Waukesha. We were most impressed with her passing as she was finding openings, successfully slipping the ball through the narrowest of gaps and into the hands of an open teammate. If she can stay healthy, the Top 20 sophomore is a Division 1 prospect all day long.
