We were able to catch all of the action checking out some of the top teams in the southeast competing against one another. We’ve already checked out the 1st team, so let’s dive into the 2nd team full of athletes competing at the top of their game at the event.
Mackenzie Morton Mackenzie Morton 5’5″ | SG Ashley | 2024 NC showed off her ability to shoot from all over the court. She moves well without the ball understanding where to go to be open or move the defense. Additionally, she was incredibly vocal on the court communicating well with her teammates.
Highlights
Savannah Brown Savannah Brown 5’11” | PF Landrum | 2024 State SC had a soft touch around the rim making her points, and she was an even better passer being able to throw the bombs up the court. In half court sets, she made some nice bounce passes into her teammates showing off how well she can see the court and get some points for her team. When moving without the ball, she did a nice job setting the screen and popping out fo her shot being ready to face up where ever she was on the court.
Genesis Young Genesis Young 5’10” | PF Spartanburg | 2024 State SC had a nice blocked shot in the paint, and what was even more impressive was her immediate release up the court looking for the pass in transition to score some points. She was ready to follow shots on the offensive board getting second chance opportunities. With her positioning, her opponents’ only option was to foul her on the block, and she converted from the free throw line.
Lili Booker Lili Booker 5’7″ | CG Mallard Creek | 2024 State NC has such a quick release knowing how to get up the court the second her team has possession to get some points in transition. She’s expanded her game being able to knock it down from deep. Her ability to make some sharp bounce passes between defenders is unstoppable. She hustles back on defense ready to stop fast breaks by getting in front of her opponent doing well as an on ball defender.
Myla Hoover Myla Hoover 5’7″ | CG Huss | 2024 State NC was tough as an on ball defender stripping it away from her opponents to push the other direction. She had a nice jab step leading to three points from deep, and she was certainly knocking them down throughout the tournament. Her ability to come up at the perfect time and place to set traps on defense was an asset for her team.
