When the 5A Vikings of Spartanburg appear on the schedule, one of the first things that runs through the mind of players and a coaching staff is how to stop the team’s star veteran big. Young tallied 12 points to lead the Vikings against a tough Fort Mill team that is already in double-digits for victories. She plays on many occasions with her back to the basket and is ready to get to work when she has the ball in her hand. If she misses a close attempt, she is likely to haul in an offensive rebound and will draw contact to get to the free throw line. Even though it was a tough weekend for Spartanburg with defeats to Blythewood, A.C. Flora and Fort Mill, Young showed why she was a preseason SCBCA Top 5 5A senior selection.

One of the premier centers in the state of South Carolina, aficionados of the 5A Vikings will certainly be awaiting exactly where she decides to play her collegiate ball. Expect a coach that is looking for an imposing big that can convert on high-percentage baskets to give her a look or two. She combines that ability to garner high percentage shots with rebounding capabilities. Young stands at 5-foot-10 and plays at either the four or the five. had a nice blocked shot in the paint, and what was even more impressive was her immediate release up the court looking for the pass in transition to score some points. She was ready to follow shots on the offensive board getting second chance opportunities. With her positioning, her opponents’ only option was to foul her on the block, and she converted from the free throw line.

Even though she plays for a South Carolina-based high school, it has been with a North Carolina-based travel team (NC Lady Gems) where she has made her mark on the club scene. Young stands at 5-foot-10 and primarily plays as a four. She is difficult to score on with her proficiency for rejecting shots and can draw her fair share of contact that can place her at the free throw line. Much of what Young does occurs near the basket and stays prepared to receive passes in the low post that can turn into high-percentage shot chances. She also will box out in case of an opponent’s missed free throw.
