As I close the coverage from this event, I want to thank those who turned in their rosters because I can’t do ANYTHING if I don’t know who the players are, I’ve been saying this for over a DECADE, it’s a science, just not ROCKET SCIENCE so let me blast off with the squad who may be “guard-heavy” yet they all “make those around them better” and they also fall into that “never takes a play-off” type of player
Aolani Woldai Aolani Woldai 5'7" | CG Brewer | 2025 State TX -5’7 CG ( True Texas Hoops 17U National [Brewer] 2025
Woldai is explosive and electrifying with the ball and her energy level trickles down to her teammates. In the open court, forget about staying with her as her “speed with the ball” is among the best in Texas, under control but control is an excellent word because she understands how to control the tempo and direct her teammates to the proper spot. Her acrobatic finishes put her in the “highlight waiting to happen” category yet her blistering passes in traffic account for easy baskets. Her jumper in both the set as well as in transition adds another dimension to her game yet her smothering defense, baseline to baseline, creates turnovers galore
Danae Crosby-5’7 CG ( Team Stay Ready 2024) Braswell [2024]
Crosby also shows her explosiveness off the dribble yet her body control while going full speed and still being able to finish after contact never ceases to amaze me. She’s strong and powerful, she battles taller players for rebounds, on both ends and scores around the basket, putbacks included but her court vision and showing she’s one of the best throwing the “no look” pass not only is exciting to see but ignites her teammates. She creates her shot under pressure, mid to long-range while being defended is nice, especially since she elevates and drops it over the outstretched arms of defenders and her defense is more than solid
Alina Martin-5’9 G( Athletic Elite Basketball 2024) Flower Mound Marcus [2024]
Martin brought plenty of tools to the shop and her variety of fakes including the HEZ were very nice as she got the defender to lean and turned on the turbo to burst by them. She finished after contact numerous times but she also hit her teammates on the money while attacking the basket, court vision was solid in the set as well yet what “set it off” for me was her dropping the jumper, not only in the set but also in transition and when you can drop the “stop and pop”going full speed, that’s HUGE. She also applied heat. on the ball, baseline to baseline and she used her hands to come away with steals
Grace Booth Grace Booth 5'10" | SG Glen Rose | 2024 State TX -5’11 G/F ( Shock ers’] 2024) Glen Rose [2024]
Booth understands how to step out of the BOOTH and turn into SUPERWOMAN and her being able to play multiple positions, all well, has been intriguing to see over the years but her DESIRE to go after everything off the rim and BATTLE with taller players makes her a “must-see” for me because of her #THRO WBA CK mindset. She powers her way to the basket in the paint using a long step, her finishes are strong, sometimes with her being knocked to the floor and staying with the shot but she drops the midrange smoothly over and over yet to make things even more difficult for defenders, she also scores from BTA
Sakauri Wilson Sakauri Wilson 5'3" | CG Sand Springs | 2024 State OK -5’2 PG ( C4 Attack ) Charles Page [2024]
Wilson took a hard lick, even I felt it and I thought she was done yet what was I thinking as I have seen her “shake it off” with a smile over the years I’ve caught her on the circuit. Her “poise under pressure” stood out in that initial sighting, she just gets the job done, nothing fancy, just efficiently and she understands when one of her teammates is going, she keeps getting the ball to them. Peep this, she also can flip the switch and take games over, her first step can leave the defender cemented to the court, and watching her defy gravity on her finishes amazes me at times. She can drop the mid to long-range, and she has good court vision and more than solid defense
