It’s also a time where a group of individuals can come together making memories on the road as they go to battle on the basketball court. Let’s take a look at some of the top athletes in the class of 2024 that are making the most of their last summers playing basketball.
Michela Jones Michela Jones 6’0″ | SF Winston-Salem Christian National | 2024 State NC does a lot of work without the ball moving to the open spots to put up her shot. She fills in the lanes well on fast breaks knowing when to go all the way to the basket to get the pass or fill in as a trailer to put up her jump shot. She can knock it down from deep as well as she slides around the perimeter staying ready to shoot the ball. Her height makes her an asset inside the paint, too, being able to seal her opponents, and she always knows how to turn and face the basket to score some points.
Highlights
Dot Mills Dot Mills 5’8″ | PG Pisgah | 2024 State NC is already known as an excellent ball handler, and she is certainly putting on a show this summer knocking down her shots from deep. She attacks the basket with ease finding ways to fill in the lanes and make the dish to her teammates or take it all the way herself. On the other end, she’s tough on defense stripping the ball from her opponents and jumping into passing lanes for the steal that usually turn into points for her on fast breaks.
India Smith India Smith 5’10” | SF Legacy Early College | 2024 State SC is another versatile athlete on this list being able to knock down her shots from deep as well as get inside for some points. She does a nice job going after rebounds on both ends, and she can make smart adjustments to put the offensive rebound right back up for her own points. She knows how to shift the defense or move to an open spot opening up the lane for her teammates.
Isa Roman Isa Roman 5’8″ | CG Grace Christian Sanford | 2025 State NC knows how to take advantage of space from her defender pulling up from anywhere around the arc to drain it from deep. She can use her own handles to create the space, or she reads her defender well knowing how she’s going to roll off screens to pull up for her jumper right where she can’t reach her. She’s crafty when handling the ball, and she uses this IQ on the other end to be a nuisance on defense.
Alissa Cheek Alissa Cheek 5’7″ | SG Rosman | 2024 NC knows how to make effective cuts down the lane looking for the pass and opportunity to score. She can attack the paint herself with her handles making some nice adjustments at the rim to score her points. There’s certainly a reason she averaged over 20 points a game this past high school season. She uses her quickness to lose her defender and get to the open spot around the perimeter to knock down her shot.
