However, I’m starting to go through kids I thought played well and highlighting them in a longer form of writing than just a tweet. I’m unsure how long this will go into this week, but it could take a while.
I don’t know if I saw a kid that had more fire in her than Habra this past weekend. In the one game, I watched her play, she wanted to win badly. It was clear that she took each possession personally. Watching her compete makes you want to jump up and play with her because her energy is infectious. Habra is the first kid on the floor after loose balls and sprints to help her teammates up off the floor. She’s the kind of kid who will make her teammates better on and off the court and make winning plays in crunch time.
After watching Hall for a game, I found it hard to think of situations on the floor where Hall wouldn’t excel. She scored and got to the free-throw line in the mid-post area, scored with her back to the basket, moved her feet on the defensive end to stay in front of guards, shot the ball from the perimeter, bodied up post players, made passes, and even has some shake to her game to lose her defender. There is an unbelievable amount of potential within her, and I probably won’t see her again until next summer, but there’s a chance that even more coaches will be all over her before I see her again.
Kennedy Retherford Kennedy Retherford 5'8" | SG Pewaukee Highschool | 2025 State WI
I never noticed how good of a rebounder Retherford was until this weekend. Sitting on the half her team was shooting on for a half made me think I was going crazy. It felt like every other possession included a Kennedy Retherford Kennedy Retherford 5'8" | SG Pewaukee Highschool | 2025 State WI offensive rebound and usually a kick out to a shooter. I’ve always liked her ability to shoot the ball, but she was one of the best rebounding guards I watched through the weekend, and she starts on the perimeter when most of these shots go up, so that was pure effort for her, and I respect it.
Natalie Meaux Natalie Meaux 5'5" | PG Franklin | 2024 State WI
Meaux was another elite rebounding guard this weekend and grabbed a few while battling two kids on the other team for boards. Playing against some competitive teams with high-major prospects, Meaux didn’t look out of her depths. I thought she did an outstanding job of taking care of the ball, and Meaux put others in situations to succeed, and she played quick and decisive basketball. Most turnovers come from kids being over-aggressive, trying to make a play that’s not there, being a little careless, and against teams trying to put pressure on her Meaux did none of that. I thought how she dealt with multiple 6-foot athletic wings trying to trap her was masterful, and I learned a lot about her this weekend.
