Over the course of the past few years more athletes from surrounding states like former standouts from North Dakota Lauren Ware, Logan Nissley Logan Nissley 6'0" | CG Bismarck Century | 2023 State ND and Walker DeMeres have ventured to Minnesota to be a part of a elite program. From 17U down to 10U the program prides itself on top quality athletes, hardworking athletes and players who push the limit to better themselves and the program every day.
Over the years North Tartan has become one of the top AAU Teams in the Nation, and we don’t expect that to change anytime soon. Let’s take a look at the 2023 North Tartan 16U EYBL players for this AAU Season, all in which are players you will want to know, watch and keep on your radar.
Maggie Fricke Maggie Fricke 5'7" | PG Minot | 2025 ND : #3 G/Minot, ND- Maggie Fricke Maggie Fricke 5'7" | PG Minot | 2025 ND is a very versatile player, from the offensive side to the defensive end she is nothing short of impressive. She has shown great improvements in the defensive side the since high school season and can be a handfull to contain along with the fact she has proven she has the ability to lock down the best players on the opposing team. Maggie has the ability to see the court very well, but also has the skills to find her teammate with elite passing, but also is a pure knock down shooter. Her name is known, and it will only get bigger.
Hope Counts Hope Counts 6'2" | SF Providence Academy | 2025 State MN : #4 F/ Providence Academy, MN- Hope Counts Hope Counts 6'2" | SF Providence Academy | 2025 State MN is a Sophmore forward who has the capability of knocking down shots from mid-range to the outside three. She is a strong force in the post and has excellent footwork but can shoot over defenders very efficiently. Defensively she uses her length very well. From blocking shots to defending on the outside, Hope has the talent to be a very good defender, but also a very effective offensive threat. She has a very fine tuned second touch around the rim, and there is no question she will have a huge year for Providence Academy.
Lanelle Wright Lanelle Wright 5'8" | PG Minnetonka | 2026 State MN : G/ Minnatonka, MN- Lanelle Wright Lanelle Wright 5'8" | PG Minnetonka | 2026 State MN has all the skills you look for in a guard. From being able to finish at the rim, to finding the open teammate she has the ability to read and see the court well beyond her years. She is a lock down defender and a very swift defender to say the least. On the offensive side she can shoot the three, or drive to the lane and finish at the rim. Lanelle is a outstanding ball handler and is always looking for the open player. When it comes to Lanelles overall ability, I think of the word “surgical” she is so fine tuned and specific its amazing. Lanelle is a fantastic guard you want to see.
Hadley Thul Hadley Thul 6'2" | SG Alexandria | 2025 State MN : Alexandria, MN- Hadley is a very lengthy guard who runs the court very well, and has the speed to match. She is always one of the first players down the court and finishes at the rim very well. She makes defending her very hard for the opposing teams, and uses her height/skill to her advantage. She is a very versatile shooter and can knock down shots from anywhere. Thul is a great team player and is willing to give a good shot up for a great shot. Defensively she uses her length very well and can make shooting over her very difficult. The future skies the limit for this very talented player.
Abby Hoselton Abby Hoselton 5'11" | PF STMA | 2025 State MN : STMA, MN- Abby is a player who goes one hundred percent at all times no matter what the conditions are. She gets steals, layups, and does everything very very well. Offensively she has the ability to do everything. From being able to take contact and finish, to knock down open shots on the outside. She is a very strong player and uses her length and body to be an elite offensive player. Not only can she be a very good offensive player, but a great defensive player as well. She can block shots and be a big disturbance on the perimater as well. She is a very fun player to watch and a very talented one to say the least. Another quality player from Tartan.
Bree Bowman Bree Bowman 6'2" | SF Prior Lake | 2025 State MN : Prior Lake, MN- Bree is an outstanding shooter inside and out, but doubles as a very lenghty one too. She has a beautiful shot and can knock them down effortlessly. Bowman is a very crafty player and runs the court very well, but is also is a very composed, player who sees the floor with great IQ . She is a very good rebounder on the offensive and defensive end alike, and attacks the rim not only with heart, but skill as well. Her defense has greatly improved and she has the ability to lock down key players. Bowman is a very selfless player and is always looking for the extra pass. Bowman is nothing short of a great player that will do big things in the future. Great all around player, and personable as they come.
Sophie Hawkinson Sophie Hawkinson 5'8" | CG Wayzata | 2025 State MN : Wayzata, MN- Sophie is a key shooter to this team. She can hit about any shot you can think of. She has a very broad range and uses her ability very well. She is very shifty guard and can handle the ball very well. Not only is she an elite shooter but a great ball handler as well. She is able to break down a defender very easily, but almost make it look effortless. Defensively she never backs down to a challenge, and she makes you flat out work for it. She reads the offense really well and has a great ability to get steals effortlessly. Sophie is a great finisher and can knock down her freethrows. She is a great player and is very versatile offensively and defensively. If you are looking for a top tier guard who can do it all, but is also a flat out work horse….Hawkinson is your girl.
Jaiden Haile F/ Horace, ND- Jaiden is the definition of a true post. She can back her defender down and does a very well job at doing so. She is very good at finishing at the rim and can knock down mid jumpers as well. Haile is a big disturbance in the lane on defense and makes finishing at the rim very hard for the opposing players. She has greatly improved at defending on the perimiter and continues to do so. Jaiden also does a very good job at kicking it out to her open teammates and reading the girl guarding her. She continues to show she is a strong player, but also a true team player looking for the team to score before she does.
Tori Schlagel Tori Schlagel 5'9" | CG Eden Prairie | 2025 State MN G/ Eden Prairie, MN- Tori is full out an “all-in” player. She has a gift of being involved in every play, or making plays happen offensively or defensively. By no means is Tori 6’2 and a post player, but with overall grit and toughness you would think she is by the way she can slide her way into the interior, as well as she plays the outside. All in all Tori is a relentless athlete that comes out and gives you 110% every second she is on the floor, she contributes…scores and is one of the loudest on the side when she is catching a breather. She is a TOP quality player, has a tremendous amount of upside to her game and is always progressing. Another highly skilled athlete from North Tartan everyone can appreciate!
McKenna Johnson McKenna Johnson 6'2" | PF Mandan | 2025 State ND F/ Mandan , ND- Johnson is an all out gritty player who has really become a defensively specialist with her long arms, and quick footwork. On the offensive side her primary role is a PF and is one of the best in ND in the paint. But at Tartan she has really expanded her outside game and slid more into a 3/4 spot really developing her mid/long range jumpers making her that more versatile on the floor. On the defensive end she has proven over and over she makes coming into the lane a challenge for anyone with her long arms mixed with her shot blocking abilities. As her game continues to expand on both sides, she will only get better and better, something we can all be excited about.
You can catch these top level athletes in action many times over the Summer. They will be in Phoenix, Minnesota, Chicago and Des Moines. Their an exciting group to watch, and relentless on the floor.
