The long weekend also represents the end of the school year, the beginning of Summer, along with cookouts, fireworks, and many other fun festivities around the country. This is a themed article, so below is a group of five ladies who play at schools whose colors are red, white, and blue.
Hailey has drawn a great deal of small college attention because she possesses the nice combination of skill, strength, and one of the better motors in Northeast Indiana. She has a never-quit attitude, and she will always be around the action. She is very physical, seeks contact, and can post and score around the paint fairly consistently. She also has some touch in the mid-post and can be a nice threat at 15-feet. Defensively, she could be a little quicker on the perimeter, but she understands angles well, and she will outwork her opponent more times than not.
Skylar Ferry

I really like Skylar’s potential, she had some nice moments during her Junior season, and because she doesn’t play major travel basketball, I’m not sure many colleges are aware of her as a prospect. She has an athletic frame with some length, she moves well in most directions, including being somewhat bouncy, plus she plays with a motor. This year, with a new coach, she played a lot more on the ball offensively, though I feel like she’s probably more of a ‘2’ at the next level. She can knock down open shots, she can get to the rim, and she’s an effortful defender.
Jasmine Horsman

This Spring has been my first opportunity to see Jasmine in action, and she is incredibly intriguing as a prospect. She is extremely long, wiry, and bouncy. She runs the floor well, and she changes directions well at her height. She will definitely need to build her strength over the next couple of years, but she possesses a lot of athletic potential. She doesn’t shy away from physicality and tries to post hard, plus she has some touch/skill. Defensively, she seems to rotate well and on time, and she provides a nice “help-side” presence for her teammates.
Sophia sort of came out of nowhere for the Lady Eels this Winter. She went from rarely used to center of attention under a new regime, and she flashes a great deal of upside/potential for the next level. She has grown rapidly and looks to still have another inch or two left in her, plus she is very wiry but tries to play physical. Once she’s done growing, she has an athletic frame, so I think she will add good strength to her frame. She also has some skill inside of 15-feet and can post or make plays off the bounce, but she is equally effective as a rotating defender in the paint.
Blair is fun to watch at times, because without even making the comment, you can tell she is cerebral like a coach’s kid. She has nice length, a fluid and smooth athleticism to her game, and she is very skilled. She handles the ball with her head up, constantly scanning the floor for open teammates, and she is a more than willing distributor. She can also knock down an open rhythm jumper when set. Defensively, she plays with a great deal of effort, plus she uses her length and quickness to defend on the ball, but also to create problems in passing lanes.
