Shayah Clark (Cy Fair)
Clark is “long and athletic” and if you don’t follow me or what I say, understand that is the base. It’s a profile I love to evaluate yet more importantly, so do many college coaches, so what are her intangibles? First of all, she has UPS which helps not only rebound on both ends but also elevate over the defenders to get her shot off. She can handle the ball in the set and attack the basket yet she also handled it n the open court after rebounding and when you factor in her court vision was solid…
Tofu Onuwaj (Cy Fair)
Onuwaj is a “long and athletic” guard, which works too and she already shows she can handle the ball under pressure yet just as importantly, she makes good decisions and at this stage, that is huge since her upside is nice. She has a nice first step to attack the basket off the dribble and she also did a good job of seeing the floor and making the right pass to the right teammate
Jaleah Reed (Team Texas)
Reed is also “long and athletic” and I had a chance to chat with her and told her she has a bright future. Her energy level stays high, she falls into that “never takes a play-off” type of player, and watching her smothering defense baseline to baseline spoke volumes about the heat she will be bringing. She plays the passing lane very well and scores off the dribble, the first step is explosive, and nice body control enables her to finish after the lick
Payton Gilbert (Team Texas)
Gilbert is heady and already understands something that’s very important and that’s how to control the tempo. The game has and always will start at the 1 so if you understand the basics, as well as the concept of running a team, you’re ahead of the game yet she adds “poise under pressure” to go along with that. She did a good job creating her shot to attack and dish or just keep it yet that same creativity helped her get her shot off
Jaslene Vu (Platinum 2027)
Vu showed me quite a few things yet her ability to not only shoot it from outside but “catch and shoot” was nice, she handles the ball under pressure, and her HEZ, that’s hesitation, got the defender to lean, which gave her openings to attack and finish. Her body control is also nice, she finished after the lick a few times
Giselle Vu (Platinum 2027)
Vu did a good job defending yet watching her come out of nowhere and intercept passes was very nice, as you can see I love watching players play the passing lane, it only takes desire. That same desire got her some rebounds but her court vision and hitting teammates in traffic in transition were nice, and so was her deceptive first step to attack the basket
FYI
*Reed’s MS coach is a former teammate of my daughter and Reed told me my daughter signed her shoes at a camp they had at the school
*I asked Jaslene Vu if she and Giselle were twins, and she said yes then I asked “Well are you all sisters” and her look was #PRICELESS
