There were quite a few new names added to the list of the rankings. The following forwards are based in the Piedmont Triad of North Carolina which consists of Greensboro, High Point, and Winston-Salem along with their surrounding areas. Let’s take a look at some of the forwards who should be on your radar.
Azahreya Drayton-Gill Azahreya Drayton-Gill 5’9″ | SF Ben L. Smith | 2024 NC is definitely an athlete who plays both ends of the court earning a Defensive Player of the Year accolade this past season. She seems to be a magnet for the ball finding ways to disrupt her opponents’ offensive sets, and she is sure to get inside for rebounds on both ends. On offense, she finishes well on both sides, and she does a great job sliding into the gaps at the right times getting the pass being ready for the bucket. Her ability to score through contact brings on some old fashioned three point plays.
rn Hattie Sloyan Hattie Sloyan 5’10” | SF Page | 2024 NC has certainly been a playmaker for her Lady Gaters team this spring already making smart cuts attacking the gaps, and she is certain to pull up for a jumper no matter who tries to get a hand in her face. She can create her own space with her handles or use her quick release to put up a shot off a pass. She can certainly attack the basket maneuvering around her defenders and showing off some nice finishes at the rim.
Kiersten Varner Kiersten Varner 5’10” | PF Bishop McGuinness | 2024 NC will most likely give you double digits in points when she steps on the court, but what is more impressive is how she opens up the court for her teammates. She flashes in and out of the paint shifting the defense being able to catch the pass and find her open teammate as opponents crash around her. She can certainly score and shoot herself, and she finishes through contact adding some points from the free throw line when needed.
Meah Brooks Meah Brooks 5’9″ | SF Chatham Charter | 2024 NC had a strong season for Chatham Charter being one of the main reasons they were able to make it to the state championship game after beating a tough, undefeated Falls Lake team in the regional championship round. Brooks brings a strong presence in the paint showing off some nice post moves and footwork to get her points. She sees the floor well even being able to push the tempo finding her open teammates up the court after she grabs the rebound. She will definitely grab rebounds on both ends for her team, too.
