PGH Carolinas Freshman Showcase: Team Two Dominated

The Rock Hill Sports and Convention Center in Rock Hill, South Carolina was loaded with talent this past weekend. The crazy thing was the young girls that you saw on the court showcasing their talent and skills were all only ninth graders.    Lailah showed once again while she is ranked #1 in South Carolina 2030 class. She and her team dominated the showcase and went undefeated. She lead the attack as the primary ball handler and efficient scorer. There were some AWWW moments from the crowd when she would make between the legs, crossover and hesitation moves to the basket. She also took on the task in several games and defended the other teams best offensive weapon.     Another impressive scoring guard that helped Team 2 take full advantage of their stacked roster. Fulton displayed early on in the 3 on 3 competition that she had a silky-smooth pull up jumper. She elevated up and over defenders and has a strong foundation. Kirsten passed the ball well especially feeding her post players with nice bounce passes.     A crafty combo guard that can use either hand to score and plays much bigger than her size. Lola was using her non dominate left hand efficiently off the glass sinking floaters. She displayed several different dribble moves and ways to score. She shot the three ball well, got to the rim and showed a mid-range game.     This kid plays with a lot of spunk and heart especially on the defensive end. She has quick hands and feet that allow her to get deflections that led in to steals and easy transition points. Laela also has some shifty moves with the ball in her hands and finds ways to score over bigger defenders.     This was a player that did all the little things that made her team successful. You need a player like her on the floor at all times. If you need a rebound she will go get it. If you need a bucket she will power her way in and power slide for a layup. She is aggressive getting to the rim and cradles the ball with power which allows her to draw a lot of fouls and convert at the free throw line.     A guard that has good size and skill set. Dani knocked down several nice looking three-point shots early on those had defenders focusing on taking her shot away by the end of the night. The thing I liked was once the defense came running at her she gave them a head fake and went pass them using both her right and left hand to get to the basket. Macri was also active on the defensive end to make things happen for her team and keep them undefeated.     One of the first things Korver did in the 5 on 5 game that caught my eye and got my attention was a step back three that looked smooth. Therefore, I focused on her throughout the night. She is a versatile forward that runs the floor very well. She was able to get easy buckets in transition by hustling up and down the court and having good hands to lay the ball in. Her fundamental skill set and her length are going to play big dividends for her as she continues to play. She is fun to watch.     This kid exemplifies the word HUSTLE. She makes tons of plays off her toughness and work ethic. She slithers through the defense and gets shots off that left me shaking my head in amazement. Calia is a good one on one defender keeping her girl in front of her and out of the paint.     A talented guard that definitely added poise and confidence to the already highly talented roster of Team 2. Toomer is good in transition offense of making plays and finishing buckets whether it is by her scoring or her finding the open teammate. She has a nice feel for the game when it comes to passing and knowing how and when to deliver the ball. Alaina is also really good coming off ball screens and creating.
