Atwood-Mayes is a combo guard/small forward with the three S’s when it comes to her physical play. She has size, speed, and strength. Not to mention that she has good coordination and touch with the basketball in her hands. In a program that is on the up-and-up over these next few seasons, I expect Atwood-Mayes to be a big part of the building process that is taking place. She will help set the foundation for future classes to come in and be successful on the court in this Jefferson Jayhawks basketball program. Something that everyone will look back on in the future and be proud to be apart of!
Highlights
Cassidy Danburg Cassidy Danburg 6’0″ | PF Waukee NW | 2027 State IA is a player that I need to see compete more this next month of July and into the high school season, but from what I’ve seen and heard thus far, she is the real deal. Danburg is a 6FT power forward, who will be playing her high school ball at Waukee high school over the next 4 years. When Danburg plays she uses her size and smarts to score easy baskets against her opponents on a consistent basis. She works early in the post and understands that she has a big advantage both physicality wise and skill wise, when she catches close to the basket. Over the next few seasons I expect Danburg’s game to continue to expand out on the floor. If she can do this, while also physically growing some more, we are talking about a high-level college talent here at the end of the day.
Hayden Kuhlmann Hayden Kuhlmann 5’6″ | PG Algona | 2027 IA will join up with Aglona high school this winter, in attempts to help the Bulldogs put together a successful season at the varsity level when it comes to the game of basketball. Kuhlmann, a 5’6 point guard, is a player to watch coming into this season for me at the point position. She can handle, distribute, and score in a handful of ways from what I’ve seen thus far. It’ll interest me as to what she can put together throughout her freshman year. I expect Kuhlmann to see the varsity floor in some capacity and once she does, it’ll be hard to pull her off, from a coaches perspective. She does a lot of good things for her team, even if she isn’t scoring the ball, something that is overlooked in todays game at the high school level. She is going to produce in someway for you, there is no other way to put it.
Lucy Schmidt Lucy Schmidt 5’8″ | CG Roland Story | 2027 IA has always been a contributor to whichever team she has been playing for and I expect more of the same this winter with her Roland-Story high school team. Schmidt is a 5’8 guard who moves quickly down the floor. She is a tyrant on defense to whoever she is guarding, while being a positive contributor on the offensive side of things. On top of all that, Schmidt brings some great energy and positivity to the floor. When you look at her entire game, mixed with her attitude, you can see why she is successful on the court. Schmidt understands that mistakes happen and it’s a learning process. She makes sure that all of her teammates around her know that as well, something that is special to see. I’m not exactly sure how many Roland-Story is going to return this season at the varsity level but watch out for Schmidt in this program. Over the next few seasons, I expect some big things out of her.
