Plenty of talented 2024s are left on the board for coaches to see, and I’d like to throw their names out before I head to Chicago tomorrow.
It’s not often you find kids who can get into the WIAC with Nell’s profile. She’s a 6-0 wing who isn’t an elite athlete. However, she’s fundamentally sound. Nell can get to the rim and finish with either hand through traffic and contact, knock down some shots all over the floor, and does an excellent job staying in front of her assignment and holding her ground against some girls with size. Nell is a versatile kid who has the potential to be an impactful player in a conference like the WIAC.
Maia Ellis Maia Ellis 5'10" | SF Verona | 2024 State WI
The Verona product is among my favorite niche kids in the 2024 class. I wouldn’t say there’s anything she’s elite at, but she’s effective at everything. No matter where she plays, it’s hard to justify taking her off the floor during big moments of a game. Offensively, she can play any role her coaches ask of her, make any shot, or create any look for a teammate. Defensively, Ellis is among the best perimeter defenders in the state, and it feels like people don’t seem to talk about it statewide. You’d win plenty of games if you had five kids with Ellis’ effort, skill, and consistency. I think she’s excellent and contributes to winning wherever she goes.
In the 2024 class in Wisconsin, there are plenty of talented lead guards, but there’s something about Berg’s game that leads to success at a high level. She’s played in a state tournament and been one of the few kids to give Notre Dame’s defense fits. Berg isn’t flashy, but she’s not going to make many mistakes, and if teams don’t capitalize on the few mistakes she does make, they’re in trouble. Berg’s ability to get the most out of her teammates is a skill few have at Berg’s level. No matter when I’ve seen her play, Berg’s consistency has been the main thing that’s stood out.
You won’t find many kids who can score the ball at the rate Jensen can. There’s an undeniable confidence in her offensive game that you can feel when you watch her operate. There’s no shot she takes that she doesn’t believe will fall. Her arsenal to score matches up with some talented kids, and there’s some refining that she has to do to round out her skillset, but the tools are there for her to be a high-level player at the college level.
