PGH Exclusive: Updates On Five Top Ranked 2024 Kansas Athletes

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Continuing with the theme of providing updates on players who have not been recently covered by Prep Girls Hoops, I spent some time in my hotel room reviewing film of ranked players from the Class of 2024.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Here is an “exclusive” look at five players currently ranked inside the Top 100 in Kansas a couple of which may be getting closer to choosing their college athletic paths in a sport other than basketball.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>All five of them can perform an elite show on the basketball court and are looking for big senior years to remember.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='265116' first='Kyla' last='Herfkens']</strong>, CG, 5'9”, Emporia</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Prep Girls Hoops currently has Herfkens ranked No. 55 in the Class of 2024. She is a menace on defense. She has solid size and can play the small forward position if needed. She works hard on the court and projects as an NAIA or JUCO prospect.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='347854' first='Tatum' last='Grimes']</strong>, PF, 6'3”, St. Thomas Aquinas</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Grimes is currently ranked No. 62 by Prep Girls Hoops. I am more familiar with Grimes' play on the volleyball court and have seen her play multiple times. She is a physically imposing athlete. She can post up and score in the paint. Or guard the rim on defense. I feel that her ceiling is higher on the volleyball court, but she and the college coaches across the nation will determine where she fits in at the college level.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='396409' first='Dominique' last='Schutte']</strong> SG/SF, 5'11”, Halstead</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Halstead's Schutte is currently ranked No. 68 in the Class of 2024. She is all about shooting and scoring from outside. She can make it rain from deep and has the size to score close to the basket. Her transition game is solid and she can run for days. The college coach that signs this fire-breathing dragon will have a difficult time getting her to come out of games.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='300799' first='Chloe' last='Curl']</strong>, CG, 5'10”, Ulysses</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Curl is a player who has been turning heads and has everyone talking about her this summer. She is currently ranked No. 83 by Prep Girls Hoops. Like Grimes, she also plays volleyball and will more than likely choose that sport over basketball. She is a tremendous athlete and will succeed in either sport. I have had multiple conversations with coaches this summer about her game on both courts. She does have at least one offer on the table to play volleyball already.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='347869' first='Ava' last='Smith']</strong>, CG, 5'10”, Blue Valley Northwest</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Smith is currently ranked No. 97 in the Class of 2024 by Prep Girls Hoops. She has jet-like speed and uses it for sneak attacks to intercept passes and to pick guards' pockets. She is a force on the defensive end of the court, just in case that was not quite clear. She takes pride in her defense but will need to look to score more often to improve her recruiting stock.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
