Four years ago, when I first started with Prep Girls Hoops, I introduced different areas of the state and their top prospects. I wanted to again work through that this Fall and offer you a much more detailed look at the Hoosiers State's different regions and the prospects who should shine this Winter throughout those regions. This article will focus on the ladies just Southeast, South, and Southwest of Indianapolis, specifically from Johnson County, Morgan County, and Shelby County. There are 16 total schools spread throughout those three counties, with seven schools in Class 4A, two in Class 3A, one in Class 2A, and six in Class A.

The combination of those 16 schools have provided a great deal of talent throughout the years, with a number of girls moving on to college basketball of all levels. Recently, players like Ashlyn Traylor (Franklin Community 2022), Abigail Young (Mooresville 2022), Isabella Reed (Greenwood Christian), Pa'Shence Walker (Martinsville 2021), Mary Wilson (Center Grove 2021), Maya Chandler (Triton Central 2020), and Emma Utterback (Center Grove 2019) have represented their areas well, with all of them continuing their basketball careers beyond high school. Traylor also represented the area as a 2022 Indiana All-Star.

Still, though, there are a number of girls who go underrecruited throughout their careers, and this is an area where small colleges can find some real gems, plus there is typically a Division-I prospect or two in each graduating class from these three counties. With that said, I wanted to take the time to highlight a handful of girls who may not often grab the spotlight, but who deserve their share of recognition for their basketball abilities. All of these girls are strictly from Johnson County, Morgan County, and/or Shelby County.

[player_tooltip player_id='177311' first='Aubrie' last='Booker'], 2024, 5-8 CG, Center Grove H.S.
- Aubrie is one of the most well-balanced, versatile guards in the state. She literally does a little of everything well. She can handle the ball and initiate the offense. She can push and create in transition. She can get downhill, change directions, and finish around the basket, plus she has nice touch around the perimeter. Additionally, she is a high-level defender who can use her length and talent, or she can utilize her instincts and ability to understand angles to level off opposing ball-handlers.

[player_tooltip player_id='326479' first='Erica' last='Buening'], 2024, 5-9 CF, Franklin Community H.S.
- Erica is a strong, hard-working forward who also brings some skill to the game. She outplays her height by using her physicality and toughness to establish herself early in possessions. She has a nose for the ball and can rebound out of her area as well. Defensively, she likes to play physical inside, but she can sit in a stance outside and help on ball-screens. Offensively, she is great in the mid-post, but she also has the touch to bury 3-pointers consistently. She is a small college matchup problem.

[player_tooltip player_id='572814' first='Ava' last='Wilson'], 2024, 5-8 CF, Shelbyville H.S.
- Like Buening (above), Ava is a versatile, inside-out style of forward who absolutely battles at all levels of the floor. She is powerful, physical, and assertive inside, and she can finish, rebound, and defend around the paint. Additionally, she has improved her handle, and she has some touch outside; when she is set and in rhythm, she's an effective 3-point shooter, but she can also go off the bounce North/South if defenders over-pursue. She's another small college prospect who schools should value.

[player_tooltip player_id='453219' first='Randee' last='Garringer'], 2025, 6-0 PF/C, Mooresville H.S.
- Mooresville has a pair of tremendous Senior front-liners in [player_tooltip player_id='177326' first='Rachel' last='Harshman'] and [player_tooltip player_id='239348' first='Kalyn' last='Bunch'], but Randee provides really nice depth for either of them. She has the size and strength to play physically around the paint, but she also has some athleticism and mobility, and she can come out on the floor to help defend screens. She is a physical rebounder, she has solid hands and footwork around the block, plus she has worked to develop a better mid-post game. She could have a nice Junior year.

[player_tooltip player_id='570384' first='Sophia' last='Saucerman'], 2025, 6-1 PF/C, Eminence H.S.
- Sophia is a really good softball player, so you didn't see her on the grassroots circuit this year, but she had a breakout performance as a Sophomore and really put herself on the map in terms of hoops. She is incredibly long, wiry-strong, and fairly fluid athletically. She tries to play the right way and be physical around the lane, but she will need to continue building her strength. She can run the floor, she has solid hands, and she has a developing mid-post game. I'm excited to see what she does this season.
