In case you don’t know, I started covering girl’s basketball over 15 years ago after my daughter graduated from high school and I saw a major void in who was not being covered by the NATIONAL MEDIA, so my mission has and always will be to try and find players capable of playing at some level, of the next level
Here are some of Simmie’s Standouts I caught on opening day
Tenice Waters-5’10 ( 2 Rivers) 2027
Waters immediately grabbed my attention with her tenacious defense and when you can play “on the ball” baseline to baseline as she did over and over, that JUST DID IT for me. When I found out she would be entering her freshman season, that made things even better because when you factor in her upside, she has a bright future ahead. She does a good job of creating her shot, under pressure, and showed she could drop the jumper with a hand in her face. She also did a good job of shooting off the screen, as well as showing she could “catch and shoot”. Solid court vision, even showed the “touch pass” in transition
Jayla Moore-5’5 (Coastal Sisters) 2024
Swan did a good job handling the ball under pressure, as well as seeing the floor, both in the open court as well as in the set. She used a deceptive first step to attack the basket, with either hand and she also dished off the dribble, as well as scored, after contact. Her jumper was nice, she dropped it with a hand in her face and she also showed she could “catch and shoot” it from mid to long-range
Amber Swan Amber Swan 5'9" | CG Neah Bay | 2024 WA -5’7 (Coastal Sisters) 2024
Swan handled the ball under pressure both in the halfcourt as well as coast to coast and watching her zig-zagging by defenders going full speed helped get my adrenaline going because it was late and I was tired so that BOOST helped push me. Speaking of pushing, she knew when to do that and when to slow it down and her seeing the floor was a big plus, so was her attacking the basket and finishing with nice body control
Chloe Wiley-5’7 (Tribal Elite) 2023
Wiley showed the pull-up jumper in the set from mid to long-range, she even dropped some bankers from the angle but her “stop and pop” in transition was nice, and so was her showing the “catch and shoot” under pressure. She set the defender up nicely to attack the basket and she finished strongly after contact yet her seeing the floor and threading the needle in traffic was also nice
Camryn Longstreet-5’4 (Tribal Elite) 2023
Longstreet was everywhere and her going after loose balls, in the air as well as on the floor added to her smothering defense. She also read the floor and played the passing lane, but her handling the ball and seeing the floor afterward was nice and so was her decision-making. She played within herself, took good shots, and showed she could drop it from outside, this included the catch-and-shoot from deep
Teslin Trombley-5’6 (First Nation) 2026
Trombley is a long and athletic guard, which is also the base that I use in the variety of profiles I evaluate but so do college coaches and they offer next-level opportunities. She scored off the dribble, she saw the floor in the set as well as in transition and she handled the ball under pressure, going behind the back several times to split the defenders
