FREE READ: PGH events valuable for your coverage
It’s a different era when it comes to high school basketball when I grew up, and the numerous opportunities that you all now have sitting right in front of you.
You have plenty of options to choose from, events every weekend and decisions to make. But what should be some of the key factors?
In the fall with Division I coaches not out on the road at events, definitely look at events that give you an opportunity to be seen by the right people. That’s one big thing that Prep Girls Hoops events offer you, not only an opportunity to get publicity through its unmatched event coverage, it also allows you to be viewed in person for their quarterly updated rankings. Our next rankings come out in a couple of weeks, and all of the fall events and coverage will be used to determine any changes in the November ranking update.
Playing in front of the people that do specific rankings means that you have the opportunity to showcase your own skills and not go by word-of-mouth. Many times people are upset at where they’re ranked but quite frankly, they’re not at anything where we are at to see them. Our obligations in the spring is to the Prep Girls Hoops Circuit so if your team is on the circuit , you will definitely be seen. What if you’re not on the circut? There are plenty of options for your team to choose from, so where does that leave you?
Simple, just attend the PGH fall individual events and you will get an opportunity to be seen, whether you have a good day or a bad day. We talk to coaches and other trusted people around Ohio, that know the game and know the players, but there’s nothing better than playing right in front of our eyes.
I know that most people, especially players, love to see their names in rankings, and so do most parents. Classes of 2024-2026 will have an opportunity to showcase your skills in front of us coming up in September at the PGH 250 Expo in Columbus on Sept. 16.
If you’re an incoming freshman 2027, time is of the essence to get registered for our freshman showcase August 12 (one week from today!) in Columbus. We will not have 27’s in our August rankings, that first list comes out in our November update. Those age groups are the hardest to find because nobody has played a second of high school basketball, so why not spend the day in Columbus and let us see what you’ve got!
I talked to our colleague Angie, who also agreed that the competition is going to be really good for you, with an opportunity to get better during the day while you’re there.
Get registered today because the deadline for the 2027 Showcase is this coming Wednesday and the event is this Saturday morning. The older kids can also sign up for the 250 next month.
We are looking to see you next Saturday in Columbus…bring your A-game!!!
