There was a lot of hype around the Prep Girls Hoop Freshman Showcase GA in Marietta. Players filled them gym early to get up shots and meet their new teammates for the day. Once the ball went up the big plays started happening on all 3 courts. Here are the players that stood out as game changers (who lead their team in all categories).
Hope Johnson
Hope Johnson
Johnson is a player that is a coach’s dream. A player that knows how to read the defense and is always in the right place at the right time. She was a workhorse on the day with a double double in every game that she played. Her ability to attack the basket and score through contact was her biggest assets. A player not afraid to bang inside but also work to score on the perimeter. She has a knack to get to all the 50/50 balls. A game changer.
McIver just knows how to work on both end of the floor. A player that is a combo guard that knows how to use her skill set to her advantage. Showed her ability to rip from the wing and also knock down the triple. A workhorse on the boards which allows for second chance opportunities. Her ability to play with so much energy is what stood out most. A player that never seems to get tired. Watch for her to make an immediate impact this season.
Highlights
Rainwater is a true point guard with the ability to score when needed. She was the key to the success of her team on yesterday. Her ability to control tempo and see the floor is what stood out most. She is always about getting others involved but when her team needed a basket she was ready to deliver. A player that will be one of the top guards in the state this upcoming season. High IQ and High Energy on both ends of the floor.
Deyva Davis
Deyva Davis
Davis plays with so much energy that I referred to her as the energizer bunny. She was all over the court diving for loose balls and creating easy scoring opportunities. Her ability to score at all 3 levels set her apart from the competition on yesterday. A combo guard that knows how to create her own shot but also create opportunities for her teammates. I look forward to seeing her play this upcoming season.
Gabriella Benjamin
Gabriella Benjamin
Benjamin is a game changer as she knew how to get to every loose ball around the rim. She dominated the paint with her ability to rebound and score with the best of them in the paint. A player that does all the little things that may not show up on the stat sheet but also has the ability to dominate the game. A player not afraid to pressure and guard 94ft and create turnovers. Her length and size allowed her to get in the passing lanes and create deflections.

Primrose was a player that just saw things on the court that most players don’t see as a freshman. Her ability to get everyone in scoring position and her ability to push in transition is what stood out to me. She knows how to use her body to absorb the contact and finish at the rim. Her ability to play all 5 positions created matchup problems for the defense. A player that continued to get better each game.
Dennis is a playmaker and a game changer. One of the most exciting players to watch on the day. A player that knows how to create her own shot from anywhere on the court. A true point guard but can score at will at any given moment. I watched her make 3 consecutive 3 balls from deep and also slash through the defense all game. When her team needed a basket, she wanted the ball in her hands. Don’t be surprised to see her as one of the top players in the state this upcoming season.
