The mornings consisted of skills development, and the afternoons were opportunities that the athletes could use to show how they apply those skills to game situations. Let’s take a look at some of the standouts from Alabama.
Belle Hill – 6’1” 2028
Hill found her opening shooting right off the pass and scoring three. She gets inside for rebounds being ready to put back up an offensive board for two points showing some strength in the paint. She runs the floor well being ready for offensive rebounds on fast breaks, and she easily puts these right back up for her own two points. Her ability to rebound on both ends of the court working against her opponents boxing out showed how important this fundamental was in her game. She had a nice up and under move getting the ball in the paint and putting up her shot.
Kristen Winston – 5’7” 2029
Winston continues to be a top name at these events, and her teammates always look for her to get a play going. She started the scrimmage portion coming right out setting up a solid two person trap with her teammate getting her opponent to dribble the ball off their feet and gain the possession. She has a step back shot that is very difficult for anyone to defend, and she is so smooth with her shot. Her ability to see the court and get a play going whether she fills the lanes or finds her teammates are well beyond her years.
Jordyn McRae – 5’9” 2029
McRae took advantage of her opponents not boxing her out coming down with offensive rebounds. She was getting inside sealing off her opponents getting the ball on the block. She rebounded on the defensive side of the ball, too, knowing exactly where to go with the ball to get a fast break going. She saw the floor well using shot fakes at the elbow of the free throw line and getting to the basket. She attacked the basket off the baseline scoring an old fashioned three point play as well.
Caycee Burton – 5’0” 2030
Burton was a tough defender stripping the ball away from her opponents. She ran the floor well hustling on offense to get the fast break, and she did a nice job creating pressure on a full court press. She showed off her range shooting the ball from deep. Her ability to see the court was on display with the way she was making passes inside to her teammates.
Izzy Methvin – 5’1” 2031
Methvin had a nice shot fake to get her defender off their feet as she attacked the basket around them. She didn’t back down from contact attacking the basket and scoring some points. I’d say she had the most effective shot fake truly selling it with her body and facial expression to get by her opponent.
