That is where this year’s Prep Girls Hoops Carolinas Freshman Showcase will emanate from. The site will be Cox Mill HS – home of the 4A Chargers. Cox Mill has established itself on both the girls and boys sides of the ledger as one of the premier hoops programs in the Hoop State.
Freshman up-and-comers from both North and South Carolina will make the trek to Cox Mill to take part. Here are some names to watch out for.
Jizelle Brock
Jizelle Brock
Brock will call 4A Mallard Creek home for the 2023-24 season and beyond following a 2022-23 that saw her sport the uniform of Christ Classical Academy. In a playoff game that she participated in for the Bobcats, she dropped 29 points and grabbed 12 rebounds against Northpoint Christian Academy. A big reason why she is a double-double threat on a consistent basis is because she uses every bit of her 5-foot-10 stature to her fullest advantage. Brock will be a worthwhile addition to a Mavericks team that looks to keep its winning ways going following a 24-5 showing last season.
Camauri Davis
Camauri Davis
Cannon School has also established itself as one of the premier girls basketball programs in the state. That is sure to continue with Davis sporting its colors in 2023-24. Her time on the AAU circuit includes a stint with FBC Queen City Ballers . Davis stands at 5-foot-5 and the young guard has plenty of speed and quickness to her game. That enables her to get out in transition and deliver strong finishes at the basket. The Cougars had another stellar season in 2022-23 as they finished with a 24-6 record – including going undefeated on their home court and in conference play.
5A Lexington should be an intriguing team to watch this season. Godfrey is listed at 5-foot-6 and has played club ball with Lexington Hoopsters throughout the spring and summer months. Godfrey established herself firmly as part of the future of the Wildcats program and she is looking for even more in 2023-24. She places plenty of emphasis on taking care of the ball and limiting turnovers while also having a knack for draining her 3-point attempts. Her defense can also lead to steals and additional Lexington possessions. Godfrey is sure to mesh well on a 2023-24 Lexington rendition that graduated Lindsay Garner and Jenna Yanity but will add Sydni Anderson Sydni Anderson 6’2″ | C Lexington | 2026 State SC – a transfer from White Knoll.

It was last week when it was announced that Ford would indeed be one of this year’s participants. Orr’s 5A Bearcats finished with a mark of 20-7 in 2023-24 and an 8-2 mark in its region. Ford is sure to find her footing on a team that not only is bringing back D’Ashaj Crawford but added Aubrey Stevenson Aubrey Stevenson 5’7″ | PG Rock Hill | 2025 State SC – a highly ranked 2025 – from Legion Collegiate.
