The PGH Florida Freshman Showcase took place Sunday August 13 and some of the state’s top Freshman assembled to compete against each other. We break down every single player that participated in the event, first up is team 1.
Lily Cote Lily Cote 5'2" | CG Land O Lakes | 2027 State FL (Land O’ Lakes) 5’2 Guard
Cote is a small point guard who plays under control and looks to attack basket going to her right. She struggled a bit versus pressure early in the showcase but continued to compete and play aggressive. When getting into the paint she utilized the spin move to get her shot off and finish.
Vanessa VanCott Vanessa VanCott 5'7" | SG Mater Lakes academy | 2027 State FL (Cardinal Gibbons / Miami Suns G Nation ) 5’9 Guard / Wing
VanCott was one of the events top performers as she was one of the most athletic and versatile players at the showcase. She has great height and a long wingspan and showcased her athleticism, skill and showcased her versatility by playing multiple perimeter positions. Vancott put the ball to the floor as distributing point guard and a penetrating guard with confidence attacking downhill and looking to score. She broke down multiple defenders with her combo moves in 1v1 situations as well as knocked down open 3-pointers both off the dribble and the catch.
Nylah Brooks Nylah Brooks 5'7" | SG West Florida | 2027 State FL (West Florida / Miami Suns ) 5’5 Guard
Brooks is a small, slender, unassuming guard who I’d like to see play a bit more aggressive. She has a high ceiling with a lot of potential but just needs to play more confidently. She showcased solid handles with the ball in her hand, the ability to knock down the open perimeter shot and good on ball defense, selectively pressuring opposing guards on the defensive end.
Kaylana Little (Mitchell / Ultimate Warriors ) 5’6 Guard
Little is a bigger guard with 3-point range who stays shot ready on the wing and spaces the floor well. If defenders take away her shot, Little can put the ball to the floor going right and finishes right.
Alanna Fabrini (Somerset Academy / Brotherly Luv Queens) 5’7 Guard
Fabrini is a long guard with 3-point range. She was very confident throughout the showcase with the ball in her hands. She has good handles and has multiple combo moves that she can break down defenders in 1v1 situations. She was very dribble heavy, and would like to see her use less dribbles and put the ball to the floor with purpose to get to rim going north to south and not as much side to side and settle for 3 pointers. She is a crafty finisher in the paint and has mid-range pull up that she utilizes off of her shot fake. Multiple times displayed the ability to step back going both right and left playing very aggressive off the bounce.
Cece Beals (Charlotte HS / CFE) 5’6 Guard
Beals is a smooth, lefty guard that plays under control. She has a strong, solid build that she uses when attacking off the bounce going left. Her broad shoulders allow her to absorb contact when attacking all the way to the rim and she also showed a floater in the paint when not able to get all the way to the rim.
Elleanor Vogelslang (Providence / Duval Elite) 5’10 Wing / Forward
Vogelslang was one of the bigger and longer wings at the showcase. She was constantly shot ready on the wing, consistently having her hands ready and getting her feet set quick with a quick release from 3. At 5’10, she did a great job catching high and shooting high, making it almost impossible for defenders to affect her shot.
Eadyn Rivera (Land Lake Prep / CFE) 5’5 Guard
Rivera is a strong combo guard who was very good going 1v1 off the bounce, attacking her defender off the dribble. She played tough and aggressive throughout the event and wanted to score when she had the ball in her hands. She was one of the most consistent and persistent players, competing every play. She played with a ton of energy and a high motor and kept coming at opponents. She was shifty off the bounce with good hesitation and change of direction moves and was also one of the best rebounders at the event, crashing the boards hard from the perimeter and getting multiple put backs on the offensive glass.
Jasmine Potter Jasmine Potter 5'0" | SG Cocoa | 2027 State FL (Cocoa / East Coast United ) 5’4 Guard
Potter is a strong perimeter player who mainly played the shooting guard but also advanced the ball up the court in transition and vs pressure. She played consistently on both ends of the floor and has a solid overall skill set.
