Expert Analysis
BJ Batson | Prep Girls Hoops Scout
VanCott was one of the most efficient scorers at the event showing off her exceptional shooting ability while also demonstrating good shot selection. VanCott was very effective scoring in the midrange and did not need a lot of space to get her shot off. She was very sneaky and crafty with her dribble (which she kept low and protected) and only need one or two bounces with some head and shoulders fakes to get the defender in the air or backing up, giving her the chance to rip the nets. VanCott is a player with multiple division one offers because of her shooting prowess, along with her ability to get open and efficiency scoring the ball. She has a lot of freedom in the offense and is surrounded by other very skilled shooters, so her opportunities to display her scoring ability in front of college coaches during the live period will a huge opportunity for her to add to the list of potential college destinations.

Vanessa Vancott impacts the game with skill and an advanced feel for the flow of the game. There is nothing flashy about her demeanor, but her game showcases elite basketball skills. She plays with strong basketball IQ, using her handle to get to the rim or create space and shoots her smooth jumper – an all around package that keeps defenses honest. While her approach is low-key, her reads are advanced — she understands when to attack, when to pull up, and when to move the ball. Defensively, she made her presence felt with a few key blocked shots down the stretch, showing her awareness and timing. Vanessa’s maturity shows in how she stays composed, lets the game come to her, makes impactful plays and produces without forcing shots and playing outside of the offense.

was so smooth with it at the PGH Expo that it looked easy . Her confidence was undeniable and she was literally unguardable. VanCott’s offensive game is at an elite level: consistent from the three point line, deadly in the midrange, and crafty and unstoppable at the rim. What stood out most was her ability to counter the defense — uncanny in how she adapted to pressure, used pace changes, and created angles against good defenses. Vancott won’t be peeping at any doors for long- she will be staring from the inside.

Vancott was surgical on the floor and scored with unmatched precision. She got to the rim anytime she wanted to and was super efficient at “getting buckets.” She played with patience, control, and had a stoic demeanor on the floor. If a defender gave her an inch, she took a mile. She was just that dangerous on the floor and was arguably the most polished scorer at the event. There were many great scorers in the building, but VanCott’s scoring was methodical and surgical. She had the ability to get downhill, shoot the midrange, score in transition, utilize the euro step, step back for the three, shake a defender with the hesitation move, and her jumper was pure and consistent. With her size at the guard position, she was also able to score off of offensive rebounds. VanCott was special and elite. Her efficiency and versatility are what separated her from every other prospect in the building.

Vanessa plays so calm and poised, and she was easily one of the top players in the gym regardless of class. I really appreciated how physical and imposing she was on the drive and when rebounding the ball. She was able to score from wherever she wanted with a high efficiency from the outside and showed the depth of her bag on the attack. Her vertical was impressive when snagging boards and elevating over defenders for buckets.

finished her sophomore year as the leading scorer in the state—and one of the top scorers in the nation—and that was no fluke.
Even against tougher competition during travel season, the show is still going.
With her fast pace and decisive play style, she knows exactly how she’s going to get a bucket the moment she touches the ball. Whether it’s a knockdown jumper, a smooth floater, or an acrobatic finish at the rim, Vanessa scores in a variety of ways. And in transition, You have to find her early, because if she gets even a little space, she’s making more than she misses.
Vanessa is the kind of player who makes defenders argue about how she got open—and forces coaches to call timeouts just to try and cool her off.
VanCott is MUST-SEE.

finished the season ranked 15th nationally in PPG with 31.8 and 21st nationally in free throws made with 180. No matter where you play, those are top-tier stats. And she didn’t slow down in the playoffs. Her four-game run leading up to the regional championship included performances of 37, 20, 29, and 30 points, followed by an 11-point outing in the regional final. Those numbers speak for themselves, and as only a sophomore, we have two more years to watch this prolific scorer put up video game-like numbers
