Continue ReadingThe 2024 Player Rankings Update for the state of Nebraska is different. There hasn’t been an update for this class in over 2 years and that is going to cause a lot of changes in this process. Usually with senior classes in high school, at this point I would have 150-200 kids listed, who have competed over their past 4 years on the court. In this specific update we will have right around a total of 175, with the Top 50 being ranked.
Somethings I would like everyone to understand when reading these rankings:
- With having no ranking changes in over 2 years, there is a lot that has happened. Some players found other passions, some committed to colleges for other athletics, some grew in the game of basketball and absolutely dominate it right now, it doesn’t matter why but what does matter is that the Ranking the player may have had prior to this update, should be ignored if their new ranking is being seen as a negative, from their point of view. It’s an opinion and opinions change every day.
- If you aren’t ranked in the Top 50, don’t worry about your position rank. When a player is WL, their position rank does not truly reflect their positional ranking in my eyes. That number is just how the system sees the players being added in the past.
- If a player isn’t ranked or listed, that you think should be, there is a good change that I simply did not see that individual compete or see them put up big numbers on the high school floor these past few seasons. It happens. There is another Rankings Update coming out in December, just shoot me a message and let me know about the player, we can go from there.
- I am one person and I am human. I really refuse to rank anyone if I can’t see them play. Wether it be in person OR on film. So I would advise everyone to film their children’s contests because it matters to get noticed in the long run and not just by me but by college recruiters as well.
- Only the Top 50 are ranked because that is all I am comfortable ranking at this time. It would have been unfair to others if I just randomly put individuals in a spot without knowing their true ability. To know that ability, I need to see the player compete several times, not just on a highlight mixtape, once.
In this article I will be highlighting 5 more players that stood out to me in this process of ranking the 2024 class. Each player has demonstrated over these past few years that they have a high level skill-set on the floor in whatever “their” specific game is.
Thanks for tuning in and enjoy!
When I had the chance to see Clancy Brown Clancy Brown 5’10” | SG North Platte | 2024 State NE on film, it was obvious that she was a guard to know out of this 2024 class in Nebraska. Brown is a knock down shooter from deep with a flame thrower for an arm. She is ready to let it go at any time if a defender happens to close out low or sag off. Brown’s best ability is shooting but it’s not her only ability. She has displayed that she can handle the ball off of the dribble and finish at the rim if she is over-played. I need to see more out of Brown this season but from what I have seen so far, she should put up some more solid numbers this winter.
Another player at the Center position out of Nebraska that has some promise to her game is Lilliana Petersen Lilliana Petersen 6’0″ | C Omaha Central | 2024 State NE . Petersen stands at around 6’0 FT and is very good using her natural size. She rebounds at a high rate, defends alike sized players well, and can score near the post when her teammates get her the ball in a favorable position. The only thing that Petersen falls victim to is something she can’t control, her competition. At times I would like to see what she could do against other players that have her high size/skill level. The competition she see’s during the regular season of high school ball isn’t always competitive per se. With that being said, Petersen will only worry about what she can control looking into her senior season. She is the type of player that could have another big winter, she just needs to go out and take care of business now.
There isn’t enough good things that I could say about Callie Ott Callie Ott 5’10” | SG Millard West | 2024 State NE on the basketball court. Ott is a 5’11/6’0 Small Forward, that is versatile. She can move around the court and play several positions, all while being successful at each one. Offensively, she can handle with either hand and attack her opponents going either way at the basket. She understands her mismatches and does a good job of exploiting them whenever the opportunity presents itself. Defensively, she is a hustle player that will always give you 100% effort. Someone that can play all over the court while producing with tips/deflections on a regular basis. After Ott’s high school career, she is committed to play at the next level and if you see her play for just five minutes, you can see why. A player with this type of energy, mixed with her skill and size, is sure to have some great moments on the college floor in the near future.
Reese Booth Reese Booth 5’7″ | SG Elkhorn North | 2024 State NE is an individual that is committed to play volleyball at UNI after her senior year at Elkhart North but that doesn’t mean that she can’t be a solid hooper as well. Booth is someone that I have only seen glimpses of on film, but everything I have seen thus far, has impressed me. She has natural athleticism, speed, and great demeanor when walking around the floor. This Elkhorn North high school team is no joke as they only fell once last season and will be favorited to win it all again this time around. If Booth can find her role on this team once again, while being able to knock down a shot or three from deep, when their team’s guards create for everyone, they will be in good shape to end on top this winter once again.
Jesani Green Jesani Green 6’0″ | C Omaha Benson | 2024 State NE is someone that was highly ranked in the 2024 class prior to its restructuring in this update. The only reason that Green is currently WL’ed is because I haven’t had a true chance to see her compete for a full-game yet. From the bit’s and pieces that I did see, Green was dominate in the paint area as a PF/Center. Her game is simple but strong and perfected. She knows where she wants to catch the ball so that she can get an easy look at the hoop and if not, she has the ability to pass it back out and repost her opponent. If someone is ever bigger then her on defense, she does a good job of spreading out to the three point line and attacking her defender with cuts/flashes across the lane. I have a few trips to Nebraska planned for this winter to watch some high school action and I will be in attendance for one of Green’s games. I’m not sure what to expect other than what I said above but I’m excited to see how it goes. I do believe she is a high-level player out of this class but I need to see it first-hand.
