A lot of new, young underclassmen will be gracing the court this year for the team. Time will tell throughout the year how they will showcase their talents to the spectating crowd. Sadly, the team has lost their powerhouse players from last year’s team and will need to fill in the gap to make waves in the 2023-2024 basketball season. Now not everyone is new to the team. There will be about 5 returning players to the varsity team. Unfortunately, only one senior this year, Mackenzie Wall. We also have three returning players who are juniors for the Enderlin Varsity team. The returning players are Makayla Wall, Aspyn Schlecht Aspyn Schlecht 5'6" | CG Enderlin Area School | 2025 State ND , and Penelope Spain. Each player brings their own unique, consistent twist to the team’s contributions. And we cannot forget their upcoming point guard, a returning sophomore – Kaitlyn Massjo. Let’s get into it and start off with it.
Mackenzie Wall, their returning senior, is a shooting guard/small forward player. She is an athletically inclined guard and she poses as a solid defender as a much needed piece to the team. She leads by example by being a hustle player in supporting her team during the team’s defensive stance and against the opponent’s offense.
Their first junior to discuss is Aspyn Schlecht Aspyn Schlecht 5'6" | CG Enderlin Area School | 2025 State ND , a returning shooting/point guard to the team. Aspyn has a 10.6 game-point average and a 3.6 rebound average. She is the team’s 3-point shooter with a 31% average score range. Aspyn will give any team a run for their money when it comes to hustling and bringing the heat on defense. She has a tenacious twist when it comes to those rebounds and blocks.
Next up is, Makayla Wall, another returning shooting/point guard to the team. Makayla brings the heat when it comes to fires being lit on the court. She has an average of 2.3 rebounds and a 10.4-points per game. She will definitely be showcasing her talents this year and will be expected to be another wiz on the court for her team.
Penelope Spain had a coming out year during her sophomore year and did work hitting the court. She returns this year as a small forward to her team as a junior. There is a huge comparison between her freshman and sophomore year She averaged 12 points per game. She embodied and proved her position to be more poised on the court. She has all the characteristics to place Enderlin as a contender this year.
Last but not least is Kaitlyn Massjo, a returning shooting/point guard. Kaitlyn will aim to impress the crowd and bring contributions to the team this year. Everyone has high hopes for the upcoming point guard. She has the highest free throw percentage at 73% for the team. This player is expected to flourish and showcase her talents in her upcoming sophomore campaign and I for one can’t wait to see it.
This year the ladie Eagles have solid expectations. They’ve got a young talented squad that could really make some noise in Region 1 play. The Eagles will be looking forward to the returning players leading the way for the younger ones and governing sportsmanship on and off the court to pave the way. Each player has something to prove this year and it’s sure to be an exciting one.
