1. Horace Hawks

The Hawks return nearly all of their offensive firepower and add transfer [player_tooltip player_id='1126138' first='Jaya' last='Taylor'] into the mix. Three Division 1 talents makes Horace the easy choice to win the league in 2026-2027.

Lakyn just committed to play college basketball at North Dakota State University. She held offers from SDSU, Utah State, West Florida, St. Thomas, and UND. She is easily one of the best scorers in the state having averaged 29 points per game last season. I don't think people truly understand how hard it is to score 29 points in a single game, let alone average it for an entire season. What is more impressive about Lakyn is that she doesn't force many shots. She is an excellent passer who led the EDC in assists per game. Last season Lakyn averaged 29 points, 6.7 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 4 steals per game. She shot 48.5% from the field, 40.7% from three, and 82.4% from the free-throw line.

Jordan is another local NDSU commit. I can imagine that Jory Collins is excited about landing two teammates who already have chemistry on the floor coming to campus in the near future. Jordan is a bully around the basket but can also step back and knock down the three. She is one of the top athletes in the state and incredibly strong. I appreciate her effort level when she plays. She dives for every loose ball and doesn't let the score of the game dictate how hard she plays. Last season Jordan averaged 19.2 points, 9.5 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and 2.7 steals per game. She shot 42.5% from the field, 36.2% from three, and 74.2% from the free-throw line.

Jaya is a young star coming into a new situation. It looked like a good transition based off of how Horace played this summer. Taylor is another Division 1 talent and another excellent passer. She can score the rock among the best of the EDC but also contributes on the defensive side of the ball. Her on-ball defense is really good and she uses active hands to get deflections and steals. Last season Jaya averaged 17.1 points, 3.9 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and 1.5 steals per game. She shot 41.1% from the field, 31.8% from three, and 75.2% from the free-throw line.

2. Fargo Shanley Deacons

The return of Tim Jacobson to the sidelines at Shanley will bring a bunch of changes to how the Deacons will look. It will be interesting to see how he fits these players into his schemes. Division 1 prospect [player_tooltip player_id='1004420' first='Rylee' last='Seavert'] leads the way for Shanley.

Rylee has had a fantastic summer of AAU and landed some big offers including one from Creighton. She is a unique player because of her size, speed, and strength. She is really good at getting defensive rebounds and pushing the ball in transition herself. I am interested to see if she is able to play down low more this season and how that will translate to more easy baskets and free-throw opportunities. Seavert is another athlete who plays with toughness and competitive nature. Last season she averaged 19.7 points, 12.3 rebounds, 3.2 assists, and 2.3 steals per game. She shot 45.4% from the field, 29.6% from three, and 76.5% from the free-throw line.

Gust is a glue player who is going to take a big step next season. She plays super hard and is a great athlete. Her game will really thrive as her confidence on the offensive end continues to improve. She has the pieces, length, size, and jumping ability to be really effective around the basket. She can drive to the basket and finish through contact or get to the free-throw line. Gust is a great defender and rebounder. Look out for a breakout season from Addyson. Last season she averaged 6 points and 3.3 rebounds per game.

Borr is another Deacon who is going to have a breakout season in 26-27. She has all of the physical attributes to be a great college recruit. She recently picked up a Division 2 offer from University of Mary. I think more offers are going to start coming next spring and summer. Vanessa can stretch the floor with her deep shooting ability but can also be effective around the rim due to being 6'2. Borr will have a chance at earning herself a spot on the All-EDC team this season. Last season she averaged 4.5 points per game and shot 32% from three.

3. Fargo Davies Eagles

Davies fought and clawed its way to the state title game last season. They graduate a ton of firepower but have [player_tooltip player_id='1050540' first='Sierra' last='Reinke'] as a key returner. They might not score as much as last year but they should have the capability to be excellent defensively.

Reinke is Davies top returning player and will be an All-Conference player this season. She has top notch athleticism - she is very explosive, fast, and a good jumper. Her athletic ability has gotten her some attention on the recruiting trail this summer. She landed an offer from D2 University of Mary. She is an outstanding defender and will be relied upon to pick up her scoring. Last season she averaged 10.6 points, 5.6 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1.9 steals per game. She shot 46.8% from the field, 38.8% from three, and 77.5% from the free-throw line.

Brynn is a fantastic role player that will bring the energy this season. She is one of the hardest working players in the EDC. She is a great competitor and will be a key contributor for the Eagles. I anticipate her being a lockdown defender and rebounder. She will be able to keep possessions alive with her effort and athleticism. She crashes the glass hard and is a very physical player. Her energy is contagious and should lead to some spirited games throughout the season.

Marie is one of the tallest players in the EDC, standing at 6'3. She played some spot minutes last season and gained some valuable varsity experience. She has established herself as a formidable defensive presence by the basket. She can plug up the lane and alter shots at the basket. She has the length and size to be an excellent rebounder. Her game will take the next step if she can become a consistent threat on the offensive end. I would love to see Marie pursue offensive rebounds and put back second chance points next season.
