I’m not sure if this group will have the same reputation at this time next season as the 26s do now, but there will be kids who make names for themselves in the regular and post-seasons.
Finley Morgan Finley Morgan 5'8" | SG Laconia | 2027 WI
No matter what she does over the next four years, I won’t forget Morgan winning the three-point contest at the Wisconsin Elite Camp, where she made 13 three-pointers in 30 seconds. Morgan will walk into a program with as high of expectations as anyone around the state. Laconia has made two straight state-title games in D4 and won it last season. However, the Spartans don’t lose much from that team that won state. There’s an open spot in the starting lineup that fits what she does, but there’s a chance she comes off the bench, at least early in the season, to get acclimated with the speed and what the Spartans need from her. Once she’s up to speed, the sky is the limit for the Spartans again. They’re more talented than last season.
Josie Piurkowski Josie Piurkowski 5'11" | SG Brookfield Central | 2027 State WI
Nobody exemplifies the impact versatility has in the 2027 class than Piurkowski. She can play anywhere on the floor at the high school, and she has the skill to play each spot well. The Brookfield Central guard played as a lead guard for her Wisconsin Impact team at 5-11 and was one of the two tallest kids on the team. She can pass it, shoot, and is comfortable playing with her back to the basket. I’m not sure where she projects positionally. She could end up as a lead guard or wing. Regardless, she’ll find her way onto the floor for the Lancers this season.
Jada Seubert Jada Seubert 5'9" | SG Stevens Point | 2027 State WI
If you like players who make the game look easy, Seubert is the kid you should be excited to see this season. The Stevens Point wing seems to play a step ahead of everyone on the floor and makes the right reads every time. Seubert is a smooth-shooting lefty with a reputation for knocking down shots regularly and the confidence to let it fly when she’s open. Seubert won’t have the flashiest stat lines, but defenses will always see her as a threat. SPASH lost some significant contributors that helped them win a conference title last season. Seubert could step into a prominent role this season.
Of the lead guards, Vogler has one of the highest ceilings. I look out to our West, and see what Addi Mack has done in Minnesota, and at Vogler’s best, she could reach that level. Both are smaller guards who find ways to get their shots off creatively and can score the ball. Now, if you’re asking if she’ll reach that level, I couldn’t give you a yes or no. Regardless, Vogler will give defenses fits because when she’s rolling, there isn’t a thing teams can do to slow her down other than foul, and in that case, she’ll just hurt teams at the free-throw line. I think she may be the most naturally gifted scorer in this class, and I don’t say something like that unless I mean it.
