Not only was the Langston Women’s Basketball Team there with Head Coach Kevin Herod, but so was OCU and NAIA Hall of Famer and former Pro, Kesha Watson. The athletes got the chance to learn from somebody who has played at the highest level while also getting the chance to impress scouts and coaches with their skills. Here are the players who really stood out to me on Sunday. (By the way, I have no say in who makes the team and my opinions are my own and not the team’s.)
I’m always hyped when I get to a showcase, tournament, school game, pick-up game… ok, maybe not pick-up game, anyway… I’m always hyped to see Logan Young Logan Young 5’9″ | SF Dover | 2025 State AR play. There’s a good chance she’s gonna be both the most athletic and the hardest working player in the building. This time around was slightly different with the Langston players and coaches helping OKRL attendees through drills. I got to see Logan and her ability to take coaching and pick up new things in the fundamentals department. A little jab-step, pivot, drive, jump-stop move became second nature for her and it didn’t take long to see that this will probably be added to her already overflowing bag very soon.
Highlights
Destinee’s Twitter (sorry, never calling it X) profile says that she’s 5’9″, which may or may not be a mistake. I would probably lean toward her being a little taller. If she’s not, then she most definitely plays a lot taller. She has incredibly long arms and legs and really knows how to fill up some space, especially on the defensive end. On the offensive end, she doesn’t take up much at all when she’s sneaking around finding wide open looks for her jump shot… which is also very nice. She works hard on the boards and I have a feeling she’s got a big junior season ahead of her!

I had a list of player names and numbers in my notebook at the start of OKRL Evals, same as always. I start writing notes by names, just one word here and there. “Shooter.” “Vision.” “Wingspan.” Just little things to help me remember what it was this particular player was doing well. Eventually, the space next to Jenna’s name was so full of superlatives that I just gave up and scribbled “EVERYTHING.” Well, I tried, but I was busy watching Jenna light it up from long range at the time so it looks more like “ERRRthng.” A nickname for her college coach to give her? Perhaps. Because she IS a college player and you are gonna want to get to Putnam City this season and see her do everything!

Keiley is a big, tough player who had no problem keeping up during the drills. She definitely didn’t have a problem keeping up when it came time to scrimmage. She was killing it on the boards, grabbing rebound after rebound and getting everybody fired up with her blue-collar work down in the paint. What really got people excited, however, was when she caught the ball out near the elbow and drained some of the prettiest jump-shots that anybody had seen all day long. Keiley Mahseet Keiley Mahseet 5’10” | SF Santa Fe South | 2025 State OK is most definitely an inside/outside threat of the highest order!
Keniyah Fletcher
Keniyah Fletcher
Keniyah is not gonna be the tallest player on the court. That’s fine. She probably never has been, either. But, like Muggsy said, you can’t measure heart. She gets her shot off quickly, she is unafraid, it’s still a nice high release, no awkwardness to her shot or anything like that. If you can shoot, you can shoot. If you’re able to find space, shoot it. That’s what she does. On the defensive end, she’s got a little Muggsy in her, too. She plays suffocating defense from the time her opponent touches the ball until her team has it back in their hands. She is ruthless. Quick hands and feet lead to no breathing space for the opposing guard. She racked up the turnovers on Sunday. Keniyah is a BIG time player!
