There were several upperclassmen who Angie and I got to see last weekend in the Best of the Midwest event at Wittenberg. The next two days, I will be looking at some of the impressive players from the 2024 and 2025 class.

[player_tooltip player_id='626009' first='Komara' last='Sylvester'], 2024 Toledo Start

Komara is a good natural floor leader from the point guard spot with a solid basketball IQ and a knack for making good decisions. She is super athletic, which allows her to make plays and force mistakes which leads to scoring chances for her team. Plays with a high motor, expect her to have a solid senior season.

MacKenzie Edingburgh, 2024 Akron Hoban

She comes from a program that will help prepare her for playing at the next level. Mackenzie has good balance on the court and is a good finisher at the rim. Solid footwork in the paint and plays under control with poise. Handles the tough situations on the court.

[player_tooltip player_id='280108' first='Samara' last='Gibson'], 2024 Dayton Thurgood Marshall

This is definitely a kid who can bring it and take over a game. Samara has an excellent floater, gets to the rim and can finish against any defender. Super flashy and does a lot of damage in the open court. Can defend and create with her quickness and leadership. Strong handles and plays under control. Saw her plenty of times with the [program_tooltip program_id='712480' first='Dayton' last='Metro'].

[player_tooltip player_id='319294' first='Mari' last='Gerton'], 2025 Cincinnati Princeton

Top three in Ohio in her class, Mari is just a bucket waiting to happen. Her motor is phenomenal and can absolutely fly up the floor. Excellent handles and can make the pass on the time to a slashing teammate for the bucket. A major high level kid ready to lead the defending state champs back in 2024-25. (feature photo above)

[player_tooltip player_id='319654' first='Elise' last='Bender'], 2025 Anthony Wayne

Her game is elite, simply put. One of the top 2025s in Ohio, Elise leads a very solid high school program. She can score on you in a variety of ways, can defend and is solid at the rim with good size with physical frame. Her ball skills are elite and she is a strong defender. What an incredible talent!

[player_tooltip player_id='626044' first='Katie' last='Maryo'], 2024 Rocky River Magnificat

Let me say this first....this kid can light it up!! She hit numerous threes in the game I saw and did it with ease. There wasn't a spot that she feared and is a true zone buster. Does have some handles and moved well without the ball, knowing where to be on the floor.

[player_tooltip player_id='758598' first='Grace' last='Pitzer'], 2025 Mount Notre Dame

Very calm and cool the way she plays the game, level headed on her shoulders. She displayed excellent foot work, very confident with the ball and can score in multiple ways for her team. She is a player who could really step up her game this season.
