The five players that I have highlighted below are the Top 5 players out of the 2024 Class going into this winter. Each player listed has special talents and is college committed for after this season.
Thanks for tuning in and enjoy!
Vanessa Bickford Vanessa Bickford 5’9″ | PG Dallas Center-Grimes | 2024 State IA jumps into the #5 spot in this 2024 Rankings Update prior to her Senior season at DCG High School. Bickford is set to play at Minnesota-Duluth once her high school career comes to an end but before that all happens, she will try to bring her DCG team back to the State Championship for back-to-back seasons. Something that is very doable with the ability of Bickford and the returning roster that will be joining her at the varsity level. I think the best way to define Bickford’s game would be strong and intentful. She always has a plan of attack, while being dominate as she goes at her defender each possession. At the Collegiate level, Bickford’s position will depend on the other recruits that are coming in with her Class. I think that she can move to a few different positions and be successful on the court but that’s only if she is put into those positions at the right time. Keep an eye out for DCG this winter, they are going to be a fun watch and a team to know as the Playoffs swing back around at the beginning of 2024.
Brooklyn Stanley Brooklyn Stanley 5’8″ | PG Bishop Heelan | 2024 State IA is going to have an interesting season ahead of her this winter at Bishop Heelan. Stanley is a quick thinking and fast stepping Point Guard, that is very creative with the ball in her hands. When I saw her compete live most recently, there weren’t many defenders who could stay in front of her throughout the contest. Stanley is the type of Point Guard who can run her teams set-offense or she can score from multiple levels by creating for herself off of the dribble. The skill-side of the her game is obviously there but I think her best attribute is her ability to make everyone else around her better. That’s the sign of someone who can become a successful college guard moving forward. I’m excited to see what Bishop Heelan can do this season. With Stanley at the front of the pack, anything is possible.
Elise Jaeger Elise Jaeger 6’1″ | PF Valley | 2024 State IA is going to have another big time season statically for her Valley High School team this winter but I don’t think she cares too much about that. I think right now that Jaeger only has one thing on her mind moving forward, that being a State Title. This is going to be the best chance that Valley and Jaeger have recently had over her past few seasons with this team, to make that happen. This season the Tigers will present a roster that could make the State Tournament and once they do, anything is possible from there. Jaeger is going to do what she does out there and dominate her matchups/the boards, while everyone else around her will need to step up and play efficiently. If this team does that, they should be pretty tough to beat. After this season, Jaeger will join UNI to compete at the Collegiate level. Something that I know she is more than excited about but that won’t have her losing focus at the task at hand, to have a Senior season to remember!
Callie Levin Callie Levin 5’10” | PG Solon | 2024 State IA is going to try and help her Solon High School team piece together one more run before she will be lacing up for the Iowa Hawkeyes at the next level. Levin is a versatile player right now on the court, that will eventually be moved to a specific position or two on the Collegiate floor. What Levin has right now is a superior mixture of size and skill compared to most of the competition she faces on a regular basis. Individual wise, there is not too many players that I would take over her throughout Iowa in 1V1 situations. Defensively, it’s more of the same. Her Spartans team needs her to move around quite a bit it seems but because of that, they see a lot of success overall throughout the year. It’s going to be fun to see how this season of Girls High School basketball unfolds. It should be one of the best we have seen in a long time here in Iowa. There are a lot of college level players that will shine, Levin included.
Highlights
Aili Tanke Aili Tanke 6’0″ | SG Johnston | 2024 State IA has held onto the Top spot in this class for a few years now and that is not going to change moving into her Senior season at Johnston High School. Tanke, the Iowa State women’s basketball commit, is a flamethrower from deep with a dominate mixture of size, speed, and intelligence when it comes to the strategic part of the game. I have seen Tanke play several times this past spring/summer season just by chance and she was doing what she left off doing in the 5A State Title game last spring, making it RAIN. In each contest I was in attendance for, Tanke was either 6-9 from deep or 7-10. Not to mention all the other buckets she was scoring at the rim as well. Overall, she was competing like she always does and that was efficiently. As for this season, Johnston High School is going to be must watch basketball and I think everyone in the state will be doing just that.
