In the article below I am going to highlight five players that should see the varsity floor this winter and they should put up some decent numbers while doing so. If you have a chance to stop by any of their contests, do it. You won’t be disappointed.
Thanks for tuning in and enjoy!
Lauren Walker Lauren Walker 5’9″ | PG Central DeWitt | 2025 State IA is the type of player that a coach can trust in. A Point Guard that understands the teammates around her and the objective that her team is trying accomplish throughout each possession of a contest. In the past few months, Walker has proven to me that she could lead a team to success on a varsty/college level floor. She plays with good control of pace and tempo, while being the definition of a facilitator. Defensively, she is a guard that can pick up her matchup in the full court or she can play back and what for her opponent to bring the ball to her. Either way, she usually does a good job of staying in front of her matchup and causing them some havoc while doing so. This winter Central DeWitt will look to Walker to lead their offense. Something that is more then do-able from an outside perspective.

Aubrey Schwieso may play for a smaller school in Harlan Community but she has demonstrated this past few months that she is a player to know out of this 2025 Class moving forward. Schwieso plays the PG/SG position and displays touch/coordination with the basketball in her hands. She always has a good idea of what she wants to do on the offensive end, usually getting herself or an open teammate a bucket off of the dribble. Something that stands out about Scheiweso is her naturally long arms. She gets a lot of tips/steals/deflections on the defensive side of the ball because of it, while it also helps her score over smaller defenders near the rim. Moving forward, I will have my eye on Schwieso and Harlan Community. They have 2/3 players that could have intriguing futures on the basketball court when their high school career’s come to a close.

This winter the O’Brein sisters will have a chance to see the varsity floor together for the first time and it’s not only going to be a special moment between those two, but this is going to be the start of a special two year run for Columbus Catholic High School. The older of the two sisters is Marley O’Brien Marley O’Brien 5’7″ | SG Columbus Catholic | 2025 State IA and she brings some elite skill to the floor shooting the basketball. So much so that last season as a Sophomore, O’Brein took 134 shots total on the year and 117 of them were from behind the three point arc. On a team that is going to return all starters but one, plus their 6th, 7th, and 8th woman from a year ago, I’m curious how all of the pieces will fit together. This team is going to run into the “problem” of having too many good players on their roster this winter from the looks of it. If their coaching staff can control that specific part of this situation, this team is going to be knocking on the doors of a State Playoff before you know it.
Cedar Rapids – Prairie High School is going to have a loaded roster this upcoming winter. They will have every position covered to be dominate, while also being a team with some experience from years past. A player that may not get so much love compared to the rest of her teammates but is an individual to know from a recruiting perspective is Presley Estrada Presley Estrada 5’9″ | SF Cedar Rapids Prairie | 2025 State IA . Estrada is a 5’10 Small Forward with long arms and an act for being in the right place, at the right time. Sometimes there are just players out there that have that “gift” of working hard and because of that, they end up with the ball in their hands, in an opportune position. If the coaching staff can put together a successful strategic plan for this years varsity team, they could make some noise come playoff time. As for Estrada specifically, with being on a loaded team, she just needs to play her role and keep things fundamental. She moves well on and off of the ball and bring a lot of positives to the floor. There is no reason she can’t do the same this winter in hopes of bringing home a State Championship.
Katelyn Aden Katelyn Aden 6’0″ | CG Carroll | 2025 State IA is a sleeper out of this 2025 Class that every recruiter in the state should know about. Aden stands at around 6’0 FT tall and she moves really well for her size. When I had the chance of seeing Aden play earlier this Spring, it was eye-opening. I was confused how someone with this size and coordination was not being talked about on the high school level more often. Don’t get me wrong, Aden has a lot to learn and a long ways to go but the foundation and base of her game is there. She works relentlessly on both sides of the floor, while being a physical presence inside the paint. I will be out to watch Aden live this winter with her Carroll High School team and I’m expecting a good showing from the Forward. There isn’t a player that should be able to slow her down in my opinion but we will just have to wait and see.
