Marley O Marley O IA ‘Brien of Columbus Catholic continues to be a prospect with an open recruitment moving into the 2024 – 2025 high school season as a Senior and if she puts together a nice start to her year, she could have some interest come her way from surrounding programs out of the Dubuque area. O’Brien is a SG, but she does a little bit of everything. Personally to me, she stands out defensively as someone that can stick with skilled guards in both the half or full courts. That’s her best ability. Other than that, she is tasked with shooting the ball at thorough rates and each season she has done that up until this point in her career. For her last season on the high school floor, I’m sure she is prepared to give it her all and end things off with a statement-type season.

has been a recruit that we have learned more and more about as the past year has gone on. O’Brien is a SG, that has solid size and ability when she steps on the hardwood. She can score from the wing spot, she can pass whenever she has the ball in her hands, and she can defend at a high rate. This weekend her Ball Stars 17U team will be competing in the USJN Windy City event, looking to make a statement. As long as O’Brien can stay confident throughout her contests and leave it all on the floor, I’m sure she is going to have a successful weekend as a whole. Something I’ve seen on multiple occasions this past year at the high school Varsity level with her Columbus Catholic High School program.

has been the constant role player and some-times standout, her Columbus Catholic team has needed this season to overcome adversity and win some games. O’Brien moves around the floor and does anything asked of her. I would describe her skill-set as smart. She makes the right decision most of the time when she has the ball in her possession and she is going to help you more then she hurts you on a consistent basis. On a team that has some emerging stars, O’Brien’s play-style is going to have to keep up over the next 1.5 years, if they want make a run during the Playoffs. Something that is very doable. All in all, with her work ethic and the guidance/support system around her, she is set up for success in the long haul. Whether it’s on the court or generally in life.

This winter the O’Brein sisters will have a chance to see the varsity floor together for the first time and it’s not only going to be a special moment between those two, but this is going to be the start of a special two year run for Columbus Catholic High School. The older of the two sisters is

and she brings some elite skill to the floor shooting the basketball. So much so that last season as a Sophomore, O’Brein took 134 shots total on the year and 117 of them were from behind the three point arc. On a team that is going to return all starters but one, plus their 6th, 7th, and 8th woman from a year ago, I’m curious how all of the pieces will fit together. This team is going to run into the “problem” of having too many good players on their roster this winter from the looks of it. If their coaching staff can control that specific part of this situation, this team is going to be knocking on the doors of a State Playoff before you know it.
