Recruiting is a HUGE part of being a successful college coach. All that being said, I’m going to give you 5 examples of some really smart recruiting moves from programs in regards to players from Michigan.
Lily Gleason Lily Gleason 6'1" | PF Forest Hills Eastern | 2025 State MI recently visited Grand Valley State University and received an offer from them as well. Smart, very smart. We all saw a ton of growth in her game this spring. The 2025 forward was absolutely dominant in the paint and is a points and rebounds double-double threat every time that she steps on to the court. In the article below, I said that Gleason should have a lot of coaches taking notes in July. The GVSU staff must have seen the same things that I did.
Gabby Piepho Gabby Piepho CG Howell | 2026 State MI was received an offer from Concordia University – Ann Arbor after a visit to the campus. The staff at CUAA obviously knows a terrific perimeter prospect when they see one. The 2026 prospect is one of the most talented guards in the class in my opinion. She entered high school with a very mature game and that has just continued to grow. Piepho is a threat to score in transition as well as in a half court set.
Avery Lay Avery Lay 6'1" | SF Chelsea | 2025 State MI has received an offer from Wayne State University. Very good move from WSU, as the 2025 wing is just a hot, skip and a jump down I-94 at Chelsea. Lay has spent her high school basketball career dominating and rising up the prospect rankings. She’s an incredibly efficient player and a smooth athlete that can score in a variety of ways. Lay is the type of player that can quietly drop 20 plus points before you know what hit you.
Amaya Smith Amaya Smith PG Powers Catholic | 2024 State MI received an offer from Rochester University. Good move from Coach Ocampo and company. She can be an influence at the next level on both ends of the floor. Smith is a bona fide floor general that can deliver the ball accurately, on the move and to any spot on the floor. All this without even mentioning her ability to fill it up from behind the arc. She’ll be a great addition to a program at the next level and kudos to Rochester University for seeing that.
Walsh University in North Canton, Ohio got themselves a good one. Gracie Rakosky Gracie Rakosky 5'5" | CG Grandville | 2024 State MI , a Grandville guard from the class of 2024, recently committed to Walsh. The Cavaliers will be welcoming a physically tough perimeter player that will bring it on both ends. Rakosky could even develop into a perimeter defensive stopper at the next level. She is a very good passer that can hit small spaces and moving targets. Rakosky does a great job controlling tempo and the feel of the game.
