The guards in the event played well and there were a lot of standout guards running the point guard position, running the show, and running the break. A lot of the shooting guards and forwards could shoot the daylight out of the ball and were impressive to watch. These young ballers got after it on the defensive end and some were special defenders who made the offensive work hard for everything. In this article, we look at some of these standout guards who played well at the Showcase. There were so many standout guards, that we will have to recognize them in three articles.
Tamara Elliott Tamara Elliott 5'6" | PG Western | 2024 State FL (below)was one of the top overall guards in the building. Elliot did a lot of things well. She was excellent at controlling the pace, shooting the jumper, and getting to the rim. Elliot is an exceptional playmaking point guard. Her ability to draw defenders freed up her shooters. In addition to getting buckets, she also dished out a lot of assists throughout the day. Elliott got after it on every end of the court and was a great competitor. She was one of the top overall prospects at the event.
Alahni Lovett Alahni Lovett 5'5" | PG Lakewood | 2025 State FL (cover and left) was another standout guard, especially in the shooting department. Lovett could handle the ball, and played solid defense, but her shooting stood out amongst a lot of great shooters in the building. Lovett also played well on the defensive end and was a playmaking guard. Lovett was amongst a lot of good hooters, but on this day, Lovett took home the shooting prize.
Savannah Ferguson Savannah Ferguson 5'10" | SG Seminole | 2025 State FL (below) was a force out on the court and was another guard who stood out in a lot of categories. Ferguson can handle the ball, get downhill and score, and shoot it well from behind the arc, Ferguson was also a fierce competitor. If it takes diving on the ball to get possession, she is going to the floor to get the ball.
Brianna Behn Brianna Behn 5'8" | CG Cardinal Mooney | 2025 State FL (below) balled all day and was a standout guard. Behn was one of the taller guards in the building. She had a great motor, ran the offense, and did a lot of things well. She had elite ability to get to the rim going right or left, and Behn is also a nice jumper. She showed a lot of leadership when on the court.
Isabella Spence Isabella Spence 5'7" | CG Timber Creek | 2024 State FL was balling out there at the showcase and made contributions all over the court. Spence shot it well, especially in the midrange area, and ran the point with some nice assists. Defensively, Spence was one of the top defensive guards in the building. She played well on the ball, in the passing lanes, and was able to block several shots on the day, including blocks in the paint and on the wing. At 5’11 Spence posed a problem for lot of the smaller guards at the Showcase.
Riley Martin Riley Martin 5'9" | CG Venice | 2025 FL was another standout guard at the showcase. Martin handled the ball well and made passes to open teammates, but Martin’s calling card was her three-point shooting. She was very aggressive from behind the line and very efficient. One of the college coaches commented on the accuracy. The coach said that they were more surprised when she missed. Martin got after it on the court and provided a lot of energy for her teammates.
