Both teams have plenty of talent returning as the favorites in the DPS conference. I do like Ponitz as a team who could contend for third with a key player returning who you will read about below. It is a very top heavy conference with the leaders solidly ahead of the others.
5 Players to Watch
She was the best player in the league last year and returns for her senior season. Rolack is a physically strong 6-footer who can beat you both inside or out. I witnessed her 45-point game last year in the sectional tournament where she dropped several threes and cleaned up around the paint. Definitely next level kid!
Seems like Morganne has been around forever, but she enters her senior year looking to cap off a great career with Thurgood Marshall. She is a multidimensional threat who is a prolific scorer and a solid defender. Good leader for her team and can beat you in a variety of ways. Has drawn some good D2 interest.
Nalayna Cosby
Nalayna Cosby
One of the most underrated kids in the Dayton area, Cosby is a player who you will get to know this year if you have not seen her yet. Very high energy kid with excellent handles and intensity to force mistakes. Good basketball IQ and can push tempo well. Expect her game to continue to grow. Played with the Dayton Metro on the circuit last spring.
Katherine Jackson
Katherine Jackson
Another player who could create some attention for herself this season, Katherine averaged 14 points per game and scored a lot of those on transition baskets thanks to her solid defensive efforts. She finished third in the league in steals with over four per game and hit the boards hard at nearly nine per contest. Like Cosby, watch for her game to grow.
Blessyn Preston
Blessyn Preston
Blessyn played for a team that really struggled last season going winless on the season. But having seen them in the sectional tournament, they have some talent just short on numbers. I liked what I saw from Preston as a player who played with a high motor and scored half of her teams points at 14 points per game. Also was effective on the defensive end.
