Dozens of the best players in the state were hand-picked to participate, and what a time it was. Championship Sunday wrapped up this edition of NBA, and we’re here to talk about some of the standouts of the event, from Day 1 to yesterday.
Julia Karpell Julia Karpell SG St. John Vianney | 2024 State NJ – St. John Vianney (2024)
Part of the chain gang on Championship Sunday, the Lancers took home the NBA crown this season, and Karpell was a big reason for that as she gears up for her final high school season at St. John Vianney. She’s a special player that can go under-the-radar because of just the sheer talent in the 2024 class, but Karpell has truly done a great job this summer at rounding out her game. Many will have thought of her as just a perimeter scorer, but her inside game, her passing, her defense, all have improved tremendously.
Mia Lewis Mia Lewis CG Montclair Immaculate | 2024 State NJ – Montclair Immaculate (2024)
Another top-tier senior to keep track of, Lewis had some big time moments for Lionhearted during this season of NBA. A team primarily comprised of Montclair Immaculate players, it gave her more time to gel with her future teammates after transferring from Lodi Immaculate following her junior season. what better time to do it than in one of the most competitive summer/fall leagues in the Mid-Atlantic. Really talented guard with an outside game and growing facilitating presence.
Camille Wiley Camille Wiley 5'9" | CG Montlcair Immaculate | 2025 State NJ – Montclair Immaculate (2025)
Wiley is a guard with plenty of potential yet to have been achieved, and her strides on the high school circuit for the last two seasons have put her in a prime position to be a star contributor as a junior. She had some moments during league play that really stood out, among those, her passing skills. Her offensive strengths continue to grow in numbers as she’s matured into the game, and more playing time should help round out her overall skillset as a guard, one that’s fast, quick-thinking and ready to make plays happen.
Gabby Brown Gabby Brown SG Roselle Catholic | 2025 NJ – Roselle Catholic (2025)
Brown possesses a lot of the tools that are going to make her a high-end talent in North Jersey, and we’re hoping that she can reach that level, an all-conference, all-region selection. This summer, she’s really put the work in toward getting to that point, and despite her recent high school stats, Brown looks like a reinvigorated player and someone who’s gained a lot of confidence since the spring. She consistently put up impressive performances at NBA and earned her player of the game nominations.
Aleah Sunkins Aleah Sunkins 6'0" | SF Franklin | 2027 State NJ – Franklin (2027)
NBA was the time to shine for the incoming freshman at Franklin. Sunkins put on a clinic as the 6-0 combo guard/forward was hitting floaters in the lane with ease and then swatting away shots on the other end of the floor. She showcased great court awareness in finding open lanes to score, and she played fearless, showcasing quiet self-confidence and a level of swagger unmatched by her peers. She played like an upperclassman, getting everyone involved while getting herself some buckets too.
