Here’s a look at how some schools will look to replace their 2023 D1 Seniors who are now playing college ball.
Haven Ford is the best player in Rowan County history, a 3,000 point scorer and Miss Basketball for 2023. Replacing her will not be an easy task at all. Walker should be the next one up for the Viking after being the third leading scorer for Rowan last season.
Ciara Byars Ciara Byars 6’2″ | CG George Rogers Clark | 2025 State KY is one of the best talents to come through Kentucky over the time I’ve been covering the sport for PGH. She outscored and outrebounded her sister Brianna last season so this is less about replacing her, statistically. This season is about the younger Byars stepping up and being the leader of one of the best rosters in the state. Ciara has all the tools on the court. As she matures, she’s going to have to replace her older sister’s veteran leadership and help push her team to the next level.
Lawrence County faces the same issue that Rowan County does. Trying to replace the best player in school history is a tall task. Sophie Adkins Sophie Adkins 5’9″ | SG Lawrence County | 2025 State KY has operated admirably as Robin to Kensley Feltner’s Batman and now she’ll have to step up and take on the big role for the Bulldogs. Sophie is a volume shooter who will only get better as she gets more comfortable putting the ball on the floor and attacking the rim.
Ryle lost Abby Holtman to graduation but still has plenty of talent on the roster. Quinn Eubank Quinn Eubank 5’11” | PF Ryle | 2024 State KY should be the leading scorer for the Lady Raiders this season but there are others ready to step up and help fill Holtman’s absence. Sarah Baker Sarah Baker 6’2″ | C Ryle | 2024 State KY is also a logical player to help replace Holtman’s production this season.
