Not only impressed with the new coach, but with his young players and the leadership roles that a lot of them have taken. This is going to be a fun team to watch this season, full of a lot of natural athleticism and a lot of heart. Coach Hall is building a culture at Tulsa Memorial and there are some big things happening! Go Chargers!
Head Coach: Rod Hall
2022-23 Record: 5-12
Potential Starters:
Asia is a very good point guard with a tremendous ability to bring the ball up court with her eyes up. She has great length and uses it well on both ends of the floor. She showed good vision in the offensive portions of practice where she hit open teammates with precision passing. She also does a great job of driving the rim and finishing through contact. Only a 2026, Asia is one of the many young players Coach Hall has that are most definitely worth keeping an eye on as the years go by.
Zakhia Germany
Zakhia Germany
Zakhia is another player for the Chargers that is tall and long and extremely good at using her length. She works hard on the boards and looks to be a very good rebounder who knows how to high point the ball and fights hard down low. She has enough handles once she brings the ball down to get out of traffic and bring it up the floor if need be. She is a reliable post scorer and also one of the best motivators on the team. It is clear to see that as a junior, she has taken on a little bit of leadership role for this squad. Germany is a fun player to watch.
Nalani is one of the few seniors on this very young team. So, she brings experience, but on top of that, she is a transfer from perennial power, Sapulpa. She brings a championship pedigree to a team that hasn’t been to the Area Round of the playoffs since 2015. She also brings some lights out three-point shooting. Gouyd is very good at working off the ball and finding open space. When she gets there, she can fill it up with a nice, high release.
Another Sapulpa transfer, Mataya is not only a former State Champion herself, but a Top-25 ranked player in the class of 2025. What you get with Mataya is a player who can do it all, really. A scorer from every level, she is very physical and has a plethora of ways to finish at the rim. Defensively, she is quick footed and agile. Long story short, she is a big-time prospect. A new thing that showed up at this practice was Mataya’s leadership. With her father taking on the coaching role, Mataya’s natural leadership has come to the fore as she mentors younger players. Even more positives to add to the recruiting profile.
Autumn Wright

As a scout, when you go to a practice or a showcase, it’s so awesome when there’s that one player that you had never seen before that’s not really out there on Hudl or social media that you just KNOW needs to be playing at the next level. Well, Memorial had two of them. “AJ” as she is known, was the first one. Unbelievably bouncy, AJ absolutely owns the boards. I mean, I’ve mentioned other players here who could rebound, but if they got any at practice, that’s because AJ was getting water or something. She is dedicated on that end and, though only a sophomore, is already very good at high pointing the ball. She had some great putbacks and is going to be a huge asset for the Chargers down low.
Perla Gonzales
Perla Gonzales
The second of the players that I was really excited to “discover” at Memorial’s practice was Perla. She is a strong, tough, confident point guard who just has that look of somebody you want out there running things for your squad. She made it clear through every drill and lesson that she was all over things mentally and executed at a high level. I was certain she was a senior, but, nope, another sophomore for this very young squad. Gonzales plays really good on-ball defense and showed the ability to hit the three. I can’t wait to get back there to catch a Chargers game this season.
Other Contributors:
Though I don’t know who will be starting and who will be coming off the bench for this squad, I have inferred based on what I saw at one practice. More than likely, I’m completely wrong. Below are other players that I think will definitely be contributing at some point this season for Tulsa Memorial. Perhaps in the future, they will be contributing to a college team somewhere.

Another young player showing leadership potential, is Jayelynn. Though injured and only able to participate in part of practice, she was a vocal participant for a lot of it. When she was on the court, she showed great handles and a propensity for hard-nosed, relentless defense. It will be exciting to see her out there on the court at full strength. She is yet another player for Memorial that I was certain was a senior leader until I got a roster. This group of sophomores is going to be a good one for the Chargers.

Hey, what do you know, another sophomore for Memorial that looks like they’re going to contribute big minutes to this team! Not only that, but Trinity is yet another player for the Chargers that is unbelievably athletic. She is crazy bouncy and crazy fast. Even as a sophomore, she was vocal from start to finish and kept everyone pumped up all practice long. She showed the ability to score in traffic and with a nice midrange jumper. Seeing her in game action will help me learn even more. I am looking forward to it.
I feel a little like a broken record at this point, but Autumn is another sophomore for this Tulsa Memorial squad who is very talented and should see some big minutes. She is tall and long and shows very good handles. She can shoot it and absolutely filled it up from long range at times during practice. Another option for Coach Hall off the bench, look for Autumn to be called upon when the Chargers need a big three-pointer.
Other Players:
Davyne Smith | 5-8 P | 2024 – Hardworker who could see some minutes as one of Coach Hall’s few seniors.
Amirriana Justice | 5-7 G | 2027 – Freshman with a very nice shooting touch. Definitely one to watch.
Ava Sego | 6-0 P | 2027 – Freshman post has great size and works hard. Could become a prospect.
Jayann Joan | 5-8 P | 2025 – Very confident player with a great attitude. Vocal leader. Important part of team.
