Fuessel looks to be an impactful defender, boasting good reach to defend both backcourt positions. Bringing an assertive mindset defensively, the guard is quick to trap opponents and take away space. Should the guard get a hand on the ball, they are quick to rip it away and create chaos at the point of attack. Another area of value has been her defensive rebounding, doing her part to spark the break. Offensively, she is quick to read the floor, finding openings in the defense to pressure on those drives.
Smith showed upside as a two-way rebounder, especially productive roaming around on the glass. Effective utilizing her wide reach to create opportunities down low, there were few opponents able to out maneuver the forward. She did well grabbing offensive boards, often converting to second chance opportunities. If the defense collapsed, Smith kept her eyes up to make a kick out for a shotmaker along the perimeter. Down in the post, the forward showed promise getting to short hooks and push shots with the right hand, certainly an area of intrigue down the line.
Highlights
Newble displayed notable consistency scoring along the perimeter, picking her spots to attack. Especially effective on spot-up attempts, the guard did well staying ready to let it fly off the catch, making the defense pay for weak rotations. Defensively, Newble was acutely aware of potential driving lanes, getting into position early to wall off driving lanes. Either at the point of attack or from help, Newble’s quick hands created plenty of tough shots and even a few turnovers. The guard already brings an impactful skill set that does not take away from others, only adding to a group’s collective impact. Encouraging first look at the guard, already showing a high level of impact without needing the ball.
Nelson showed immense value inside the arc, potent rebounding the ball in large swaths while staying efficient as a scorer. Possessing a gritty style of play, the guard was especially productive drawing fouls in traffic. Active attacking the rim through straight line drives, the guard had an immense impact creating opportunities at the free throw line. Alongside her willingness to draw fouls, those opportunities additionally came from attempted putbacks and offensive rebounds. Her progression as a playmaker with the ball will be interesting, already bringing an incredibly high motor to complement her game.
