The Southwest Sting went through a bit of a shift in the earlier part of the summer season, but that didn’t stop Nyree from taking care of business on the court. This PF is strong in all the right ways. As powerful player, she also has the smooth handles to help break full court pressure and keep the ball flowing on the offensive end. But it is on the wing where Smith thrives; earning MVP honors in the GTE Mountain West Summer Preview this past weekend behind strong drives to the basket and knock down three point shooting. On Defense, she continues to bring the power. She can guard post players in the paint to get stops and clean up the defensive boards. Nyree, is quick too, making her effective in traps and full court pressure. Catch the Southwest Sting and Smith as they bond in June and dominate throughout the rest of the summer.

Smith is not your normal forward, in such a good way. She can get it done in the paint. Playing with her back to the basket from the block and scoring from the high post come easy to her. But Nyree also plays very natural from the wing. She has great handles for her size. She can help take care of the ball in press situations and keep offensive sets flowing. Smith has no problem getting to the basket, but she also has an accurate, quick release even from behind the 3pt line. On defense, she is just as versitile. She can guard taller paint players, using her power to keep them off balance and off the boards. Smith can also defend from the wing, getting in a stance and keeping dribblers and shooters in check. Some exciting summer months are in store for this forward.

Smith is one of those players that can change the game with her play as she helped the Skyview Wolves to a playoff appearance this season. She is a great mix of power and finesse on the court. She has the handles that pull her away from her listed PF/C position, but thats not a problem for her. On the wing, Nyree can get to the basket to finish strong and get to the free throw line. She also has the range that pulls her out from the paint as well. She can hit from the mid-range and from 3pt both, you can’t give her space. In the paint, Smith uses her power to earn position and easy buckets on taller post players. Defensively, she is just a tough. She uses her body well to dominate her matchup. She can contain dribblers and shooters on the wing very well and push taller post players around with ease. Nyree will be an anchor player for Skyview into her upper years.

This forward puts the power in Power Forward. Nyree uses her strong frame well on both ends on the court. On offensive she is the perfect target on the wing and in the paint. She has the handles to catch and go from the wing, getting points from finishes at the rim and pull-up jumpers both consistently. Smith can also shoot from the three, making her a surprise for the bigger post players that match up against her. She is constantly crashing the boards, getting the extra clean-up points for Skyview. At the defensive end she uses her frame just as well. She has a long wingspan to keep dribblers and shooters contained, but really gets the needed stops in the paint by using all her strength to her advantage. As just as sophomore, Nyree will continue to be a crucial component to the Skyview team.

This under the radar sophomore can truly play any position on the court, but finds the most comfort on the wing and in the paint where she can use her size to push around smaller defenders for easy buckets and offensive rebounds. Smith isn’t just a big body, her handles are guard-like, controlling the ball in the open court when needed. She can also shoot from the outside like a guard, making her an offensive threat from two points or three. Nyree uses the same versatility on defense with the ability to move and guard on the wing, and also to get strong in the post. This sophomore is poised to help Skyview make surprise teams in the second half of the season.
