This list is based on players I have seen THIS SEASON. I have many others that will be added after the holidays and I’ll go into the rankings probably after that but I wanted to drop the Sweet 16 initially and here are my FIRST 5 in no particular order
Alfred is a “long and athletic” guard who is becoming a “nightmare to defend” and I don’t use that phrase lightly like so many others. She can score off the dribble with ease, attacks and finishes with either hand yet her body control is placing her in the “highlight waiting to happen” category. She also creates her shot from the outside and drops the mid to long range with ease, partly because she elevates on her jumper as well as shows a variety of moves to get open. She rebounds and her court vision in transition is nice, it’s also solid in the set plus she plays the passing lane
Bailey is one of the most explosive guards in Texas, all classes included and watching her dazzling ballhandling which includes he STUTTA step as well as the HEZ, all I need to add is her CROSSOVER in transition. Her body control is ahead of her years and watching her turn the turbo on, she has an extra gear, is very special. She finishes strongly after contact off the dribble, she drops the mid to long-range with a hand in her face and her “on the ball” defense is smothering
Holmen has the right last name because she makes it difficult for defenders to HOLD her, yet she does a good job of holding her man in the set as well as baseline to baseline. She’s fearless and shows it while attacking the basket, plus she stays with it when she knows contact is coming which places her in the “and one” waiting to happen group. She also drops it from outside, mid to long-range and her ability to see the floor under pressure is also a huge plus
Mitchell bedazzled me the first time I saw her and I was scratching my head on how I missed her. Well she’s a move in from Arizona and she quickly showed me a variety of furnishings she brought with her. Let me start with she’s “long and athletic” which will always be the base, yet watching her maturity on the court against older players coupled with going after everything off the rim gets her the #THROWBACK. Her first step can be devastating as she elevates over the defender to finish off the dribble yet her UPS also helps as she drops the jumper. She plays the passing lane and also does a good job defensively
Pringle is exciting to watch, I saw that on the PGH Circuit yet at the PGH 250 Expo, she set it off immediately and kept it going. She too is “long and athletic” but she also falls into that “never takes a play off” type of player and whether she’s defending baseline to baseline or in the paint, the heat she brings helps to create turnovers. She also scores powerfully off the dribble and contact is irrelevant because of her strength. Her mid to long-range has taken a jump from good to really good, she has solid court vision and she plays the passing lane
