So with the time change occurring hours after game play, the extra hour of sleep was warranted for these young ladies. Preseason (Fall Ball) gave players the chance to get their legs under them and experience game play with new teammates. Opening weekend means no nerves, it’s go time. Here are a few noteworthy names from the afternoon games.
Da’Niyah Lewis
Da’Niyah Lewis
The first thing you notice with this young lady is the MOTOR she plays with. More appealing than her motor is basketball IQ. She finds her teammates before they can even realize that they’re open. Lewis is scrappy. She was able to get numerous deflections or cause turnovers against opponents’ transition breaks. Her team misses her when she is on the bench as she’s a real spark on the court.
Ja’Kaila Lee
Ja’Kaila Lee
In the modern world of basketball, where positions are going out of style as we’re seeing more 6 footers plus play on the perimeter and less of an inside game, do not underestimate size. Lee is an exemplar reminder of this notion not to make judgements based on size. Her high arching shot gives her the ability to shoot over long defenders. Beyond ability, as she is not just a shooter but rather a confident shooter. She pulled up in transition at the 3 point line and hit, and in the same quarter hit three’s from both corner pockets in the Humble’s half court offense. On the defensive side, Ja’Kaila was a beast in the press as she used her IQ to push defenders to trap in the corner, then jump and steal. A proven shooter, Lee also displayed crafty finishes at the rim.
Biscette boast a beautiful mid range jumper. Multiple times, she showcased her ability to dribble down in transition and pull up to sink a stop and pop jumper. She uses her speed to draw defenders in as she attacks, and then dish out to the open man in the corner. She has a silent but RAW athleticism that has not been all the way tapped into. Biscette is an extremely under the radar class of ’24 player. College coaches can potentially base their team around her. She plays lockdown defense as her footwork game is top notch.

McLaurin is LONG and knows how to use her length to create space while creating contact. Using her length and leaping ability, she has the ability to draw a lot of fouls. Thus, making her far from easy to guard. On the defensive side, she has quick feet and her length is a problem.
Chardel Terrel
Chardel Terrel
Terrel is a scrappy competitor. Clear Brook made a strong comeback in the second half to cut down Shadow Creek’s lead. While Terrel’s performance may not have been indicative via the stat sheet, she provided her team with high value intangibles. Yes, she is scrappy but she can and will shoot the three ball. High energy player that injected her team with momentum.
