The 2023-2024 season is quickly approaching and soon the sound of squeaky shoes on a court and chants of “I believe that we can win,” fill up high school gyms all over the Sunflower State.
Here is a look at some of the top returning scorers at Class 2A schools.
Josey Kennedy Josey Kennedy 5'6" | PG Hoxie | 2024 State KS , 5’5”, PG, Hoxie, ‘24
Kennedy can put the biscuit in the basket. She scored 18 points per game as a junior for Hoxie. She also averaged 3.8 assists and 3.2 steals per game. Kennedy has a high ceiling has a basketball prospect, but could also play volleyball at the next level.
Hayden Heim Hayden Heim 6'3" | PF St. Marys | 2025 State KS , 6’2”, PF, St. Marys, ‘25
The St. Marys Bears have a sophomore prospect that college coaches are sure to take notice of. Heim stands 6-foot-2 and is an inside scoring threat. She averaged a double-double as a sophomore scoring 16.6 points per game and reeling in 10.2 rebounds per contest. Her stats increased in both of those categories from her freshman season when she averaged 10 points and 7.4 rebounds.
Korie Kirkwood Korie Kirkwood 5'8" | SF Valley Falls | 2024 State KS , 5’8”, G/F, Valley Falls, ‘24
Kirkwood is a three-level scorer for the Dragons. She averaged 15 points per game in 22 games played during her junior campaign. She is also a monster on the boards averaging 9.9 rebounds per contest in the 2022-2023 season.
Grace Hett, 5’5”, SG, Marion, ‘24
Marion’s Hett is a top returning scorer who averaged 14.9 points per game as a junior. Hett is a solid-around player who also averaged 2.5 assists, 2.3 steals, and 3.3 rebounds in 19 games played last season. Hett has committed to play volleyball at Wichita State after graduation.
Megan Ricke Megan Ricke 5'8" | SG Wichita County Highschool | 2024 State KS , 5’8”, G/F, Wichita County, ‘24
Ricke is a force to reckon with for opposing coaches on both sides of the court. She averaged 13.5 points per game as a junior and also averaged 7.9 rebounds and four steals per contest.
Dakota Kattenberg Dakota Kattenberg 5'7" | CG Smith Center | 2024 State KS , 5’8”, F, Smith Center, ‘24
Kattenberg is an athletic “big,” who also has solid ball skills. She scored 13.2 points per game as a junior. In 23 games played she also averaged 8.8 rebounds, and 4.5 assists.
Makayla Boyd, 5’8”, G/F, Oskaloosa, ‘24
Boyd competes in three sports for the Oskaloosa Bears. She finished her junior season scoring 12. 6 points per game. She is also an effective rebounder averaging 6.4 boards per contest in the 2022-2023 season.
Tayten Dewey Tayten Dewey 5'9" | SF Rawlins County | 2025 State KS , 5’10”, G/F, Rawlins County, ‘25
The second sophomore among this list of top returning scorers plays in Atwood. Dewey averaged 11.8 points in 21 games played. She filled up her impressive stat sheet in 2022-2023 with 4.4 rebounds, 3.4 assists, and 2.9 steals per game.
Leslyn Kremeier Leslyn Kremeier 5'5" | PG Herington | 2025 State KS , 5’5”, PG, Herington, ‘25
You don’t want to be standing on the tracks when this Railroader guard is driving the ball. Kremeier is a sneaky-quick point guard. She averaged 11.8 points per game during her sophomore campaign. She also registered averages of 3.4 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and 2.5 steals in 21 games played last season. She is also an accomplished defensive player on the volleyball court as she has more than 1,000 career digs in that sport.
Adaline Bloomfield Adaline Bloomfield SG Mission Valley | 2025 State KS , 5’6”, G/F, Mission Valley, ‘25
Bloomfield can really jump and is a player who has a key role for the Vikings in volleyball and softball as well. During her sophomore season, she averaged 11.3 points and 6.5 rebounds per game. She is also a plus-defender who recorded 3.9 steals per contest in 23 games played for Mission Valley.
