Continue ReadingErupting for the start of the season, Hess has been incredibly productive, serving as the focal point for Windsor’s offense. The shooting guard has kicked off the season with 19.3 points and 11.7 rebounds per game while going 6/14 from beyond the arc through her first three games. With a constant motor on the glass, Hess is among the state’s most productive scorers thanks to her willingness to crash the glass. Posting 20 offensive to 15 defensive rebounds, she is among few prospects with a ratio higher on the offensive glass than defensive end, landing among the top in 5A for totals.
Highlights
The guard adds immediate value through her floor spacing beyond the arc, capable of stepping into shots quickly or from a standstill. Cherry Creek’s 4-1 has been lended to her ability to be a secondary playmaker when needed, attacking closeouts with pace or staying effective around the arc. With growing confidence within her role, Dorighi should be a valuable perimeter scorer who can make quick decisions on the attack, either for herself or setting up a shooter.
A physical scorer downhill, the guard does well leveraging her handle to create drives and physical finishes in the paint. Possessing soft touch with either hand, Mortensen has been a focal point for Legacy’s offensive engine for quite some time now. Also dynamic in how she can create opportunities, they were active rolling off of ball screens, throwing in different situations to the opposing defense. Her role will be intriguing this season, following the departure of five of Legacy’s six leading scorers.
Possessing good size at the two-guard, Simonich can heat up quickly beyond the arc while retaining a high feel for the game on defense. Effective matching up with 2s and 3s, she has shown value taking contact while retaining a legal contest at the rim. Highly active on defensive rotations, Simonich can utilize her wide reach for deflections on passes or blocks from shotmakers. With minimal frontcourt options at Highlands Ranch, the guard will often be tasked with high expectations rebounding the ball this season, given her height advantage.
Highlights
Baker is a strong complementary guard who lets the game come to her, carefully seeking shots. Often spacing the floor from catch and shoot threes, she is a well rounded guard who raises the offensive floor. Showing value flowing into shots quickly off of movement, her scoring volume from weak side actions will be particularly intriguing. Also actively hitting well timed passes to teammate cutters, Baker has been especially beneficial for 3-1 ThunderRidge.
Likely an impactful defensive presence for Mead, Haley possesses quick feet and active hands. Providing excellent help side defense, the guard is quick to get a hand into the passing lane for steals, often converting those opportunities into transition attempts or outlets. Even while rotating over to a ball handler, Haley does a great job keeping her arms up to contest and block shots against opposing guards. Her growth in volume beyond the perimeter will be intriguing, showing upside setting her feet quickly to relocate on those attempts.
