is a multi-talented guard who can score from all three levels. If given enough space, Haley can convert from distance. Darby can also slither her way into the paint and convert on tough finishes as well. In her last high school season, look for Haley to continue dominating the game in every area.

If there were a coaches vote for potential top point guards in all of northern Colorado I’m confident Darby would get lots of votes. She is the definition of a true lead guard that contributes to “winning” in so many ways, which is why Mead is again projected to be a state title contender. Darby is particularly difficult to defend because she is a very efficient three point shooter (38%), but when teams plot to take the deep ball away she is just as dangerous attacking the rim. A master at controlling the pace of the game Darby never seems to get sped up by opposing defenses. With Darby’s leadership, talent, and experience Mead will be a dangerous match up for any team in March.

Darby was 5A 2nd team all-state as a junior and is poised to have an even bigger senior season. Anytime a program returns their lead guard good things are in store – Darby is especially impactful due to her heavy workload: Handling, shooting, and passing for Mead HS. Her ability to run this team and control the tempo of any matchup make the Mavericks a legit threat to make another deep playoff run. She currently holds offers from Loras College and Northeastern Junior College, but I wouldn’t be surprised at all if she plays her way into a lot more college opportunities this season.

Darby is a crafty point guard that has an uncanny knack for controlling the tempo of any game. She has a great change of pace, frustrating defenders with her patient style. Along with being a quality ball handler, Darby can also stroke the 3 ball. Often, teams will play her for the drive because of her ability to find the open player or finish at the rim. This is when she will start lighting it up from the arc. As a junior Darby took the Mead Mavericks to the 5A final four, leading the team in both scoring and assists. She currently holds offers from Loras College and Northeastern Junior College.

Darby stands out as an athletic player with a high basketball IQ that many don’t have. Her defensive awareness makes her a tough opponent to play against. While her ability to make open shots and involve her teammates in the game is what makes her so versatile. Darby’s understanding for the game and playing style have made her a key player on every team she has played on so far.

Haley took advantage of the defensive openings, knocking down an array of three point attempts off the catch. A smart playmaker who may not be particularly flashy, although you can count on her to make the right reads. Certainly possessing plenty of gravity along the perimeter, she repeatedly took advantage of the additional openings within the driving lanes. As well, she is a capable ball handler with either hand, not sped up while getting to shot attempts or passing opportunities off the bounce.

An excellent plug and play guard, Haley is malleable within different lineups given her ability to be a scoring threat within a couple dribbles. One of the better perimeter shooters for this group, the guard is knockdown off the catch. Haley consistently makes decisions off the catch, where the ball does not stick too much.

Likely an impactful defensive presence for Mead, Haley possesses quick feet and active hands. Providing excellent help side defense, the guard is quick to get a hand into the passing lane for steals, often converting those opportunities into transition attempts or outlets. Even while rotating over to a ball handler, Haley does a great job keeping her arms up to contest and block shots against opposing guards. Her growth in volume beyond the perimeter will be intriguing, showing upside setting her feet quickly to relocate on those attempts.
