The Breakdown Tip Off Classic opened Friday evening with a half dozen solid matchups at Hopkins High School. Below is a recap of some of Friday's top performers. There were a ton of notable performances, but unfortunately we aren't able to be everywhere at once, so if I missed someone, we'll catch up to you eventually, that I can promise. With no further ado, here we go!!

[player_tooltip player_id='205298' first='Jordan' last='Ode'] - 2025 guard - Maple Grove

It was a bit of a slow start through two games for the Michigan State commit, but if there were any remaining rust, she shook it off against Eastview. The Lightning's scrappy, physical defense kept them in the game, but no one could contain Ode. She got to her spots and finished with pristine precision. She is a legit 3-level scorer and defensively the team's best shot blocker. She missed a layup that would have thwarted an Eastview rally late in the game, but redeemed herself a few possession's later with a quick sweeping drive to her left with 30 seconds remaining to extend to a 53-48 lead and Maple Grove would hold on to win to 55-48. [player_tooltip player_id='212488' first='Myah' last='Maull'] led Eastview with an impressive 18 points.

[player_tooltip player_id='178270' first='Finley' last='Ohnstad'] - 2024 forward - Lakeville South

We've seen some out-of-this-world performances in the Tip off Classic over the years with Prior Lake alum and now Colorado State standout McKenna Hofchild's 63-point onslaught a few years back coming to mind. Ohnstad was a in zone and got the party started 10 seconds into the game with a 3 from the right wing. She was flat-out impressive. Ohnstad would go on to knock down 9 threes on her way to a game high 45 points and did everything she could to keep her Lakeville South squad within striking distance. Ultimately, Wayzata just had too much firepower and would go on to pull away 90-70.

[player_tooltip player_id='296517' first='Katie' last='Kelzenberg'] - 2025 Post - Wayzata

After a two-year basketball hiatus to focus on volleyball, the 6'1 Kelzenberg is back with a vengeance. Against Lakeville South, Kelzenberg ruled the the paint. Her first touch in the lane she delivered a beautiful up-and-under move displaying great footwork and patience to draw a foul and get to the line. Kelzenberg kept possessions alive with her physical play and nose for getting the ball into the hands of her teammates who knew just what to do with it. She also showed the ability to put the ball on the deck as on one possession she drove from the top of the key drawing another foul earning free throws. Once she gets settled in, she'll be the ying to the perimeter players yang and a whole lot of trouble for opponents throughout the year as they look to upset the apple cart and make a bid for the 4A state title.

[player_tooltip player_id='644100' first='Annika' last='Kieser']- 2027 wing - Wayzata

Wayzata hasn't been known to play a ton of underclassmen in recent years, but a talent like [player_tooltip player_id='644100' first='Annika' last='Kieser'], the 20th-ranked prospect in the 2027 class cannot be denied. Coming off the bench for the Trojans against Lakeville South, Keiser was instant offense. She rebounds, pushes pace and is a very good 3-point shooter. Keiser knocked down 3 long-range bombs on her way to a team high 19 points to lead the way for the Trojans. Keiser and fellow freshman 16th-ranked [player_tooltip player_id='659119' first='Maren' last='Day'], who chipped in 11 points as well off the bench will need to continue to play at a high level for Wayzata to play for the state title bid that has eluded them for quite some time now.

[player_tooltip player_id='178269' first='Liv' last='McGill'] - 2025 guard - Hopkins

What can be said about McGill's game that hasn't been said before. The Florida Gator commit is full of passion and the physicality she plays with from the guard position is unmatched. She was a menace during the 1st half leading the charge to help her Royals squad hop out to a 13-0 lead over Lakeville North getting to the rim with ease. Like the aforementioned [player_tooltip player_id='205298' first='Jordan' last='Ode'], McGill is a pretty capable shot blocker for her size and does so without picking up fouls. McGill tallied 20 points by halftime, all in the paint. Liv cooled off a bit in the 2nd half, but kept her composure and hit a big floater down the stretch to finish with a game high 26 points to keep the Panthers just out of reach and help Hopkins escape with a narrow 49-48 win.

[player_tooltip player_id='215957' first='Gabby' last='Betton'] - 2024 guard - Lakeville North

In a possible state title showdown against Hopkins, Betton, the Loyola (Maryland) commit would probably just like to flush the 1st half of this game down the toilet and hit the reset button, and that she did. Hopkins intense, in-your-face pressure defense had the Panthers and Betton rattled from the jump to the tune of a 32-16 half time deficit. Fast forward to the 2nd half, Betton settled down and in doing so, settled her team down. Only having tallied 2 points in the 1st half, Betton found her stroke knocking down 2 3's and getting the rim in transition to pour in 11 big 2nd half points. She made great decisions with the ball in her hands and led a furious 2nd half comeback, but fell just short at the end succumbing to the Royals 49-48 in what could be the best game of the weekend.

[player_tooltip player_id='346182' first='Elayna' last='Boe'] - 2025 guard - Lakeville North

Boe, the 36th ranked prospect in the class of 2025, only tallied 6 points for the game, all coming in the 2nd half, and boy were they big. But it was her defense on McGill in the 2nd half that stood out. In the 1st half, it was almost as if Lakeville North had too much respect for McGill and was afraid to mix it up. Whatever they talked about at halftime inspired the squad and Boe was up for the challenge. You don't often see Mcgill get rattled, but Boe stood toe to toe with her and even took the ball right out of her hands to lead to transition buckets along with the Panthers team defense forcing McGill into uncharacteristic turnovers to give them a chance to get back into the game. Boe is an accomplished scorer in her own right, but understood with her quickness and length, the team needed her to lock in defensively on McGill to give them a chance to get back into the game, and she took that assignment to heart.
