A grand total of 13 varsity teams were on hand at Lexington’s home court between the Gold Bracket and Silver Division – along with several other teams from the junior varsity ranks.
While teams expect plenty on both ends of the floor from their starting five, getting production off the bench can make a huge difference as well between getting in the win column or not. Without further adieu, here are a few of those bench standouts from Saturday’s play in the Midlands.
Pelzer’s 4A Riverside squad tipped off this year’s Lexington Christmas Classic with a 66-45 victory to dispatch of another 4A team in South Florence. A nine-point performance from Pelzer was instrumental in another victory for the Warriors. Pelzer is one of the veterans on a Riverside team poised to take that next step in 4A play. She primarily plays at the five in the frontcourt. One can count on Pelzer to not only come through with scoring depth, but also to bolster her team’s rebounding efforts as well. Pelzer also understands the game is played on contact and will give her team opportunities at the free throw line.
Damaria Brown

Providing a great deal of frontcourt depth, SCISA 4A Ben Lippen threw plenty of Brown at the North defense. The Falcons earned a dominant 59-29 victory over the Eagles to kick off Silver Division play on Saturday. Brown finished with 12 points off the Falcons’ bench. Brown displays her toughness with her ability to play the game on contact and get to the free throw line if necessary. Defensively, she is tough to score points on as her height combined with her length can lead to a good bit of rejected shots. Brown also gives Ben Lippen plenty of rebounding depth. Brown’s play makes the Falcons a tough out for any comer.

A team as stacked as North Augusta can wear opponents out either via their starting five or via a bench. Armistead came off that bench in the Yellow Jackets’ contest against 5A Spring Valley and contributed eight points in another North Augusta victory. The final score was 70-56 to send the Yellow Jackets to the winner’s end of the Gold Bracket. Armistead puts plenty of emphasis on handling the ball and showcased her ability to handle said rock even amongst a number of defenders. Attacking the rim is another of her strong points along with the ability to draw contact to get to the free throw line. Armistead transferred to the Yellow Jackets from Georgia’s 2A Westside in Augusta.
The 4A Raiders have caused problems – and then some – for opponents this season. One could add Northside Christian to that list as Laurens closed out the Saturday of Silver Division play at Lexington HS with a 56-34 win over the Crusaders. Allen finished with 10 points and the win upped the Raiders’ 2023-34 mark to 6-5. She is a 2026 that is listed at 5-foot-7 per the Laurens roster. A good bit of the production that Allen had in Saturday’s game was at the free throw – an extension of her willingness to draw contact and give her team chances at the charity stripe.
